Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants (politics pole)
The NRA is so extremist it's ridiculous. I'm all for guns, but I agree with background checks. I also think that someone with a history of domestic violence should not be allowed to legally own a gun. Same for extreme mental illness. Gun registries are a terrible idea. Limiting magazine capacity makes sense when considering a mass shooter situation. And I call BS on the need for high capacity magazines when hunting. If you need a magazine with 30+ rounds to kill a single dear, you're a terrible shooter and need to get your butt in the range and practice.
However, I'm always open to hear others opinions on these matters because everyone has a different background and perspective.

And then there's the 30% of it that either expends an inordinate amount of energy on fringe issues, or veers into an-cap "we don't need the government concerned with currency/police/schools/roads/etc." nonsense territory, which is pretty unfortunate.chargers21 wrote:What's embarrassing about essentially copy/pasting the Libertarian Party platform? ty. And yeah I'm not embarrassed about those beliefs at all I just noticed the thread title after initially commenting and wasn't sure if I should join in. Mainly my reasoning behind libertarianism is the concept of avoiding centralized power. It seems clear from history that no political system is perfect or can last, due to humanities inherent flaws, so then it's a question of what system can provide the fundamental purposes of a government, while not intruding on another persons freedom. My answer is that localized control is the best solution, since what works in Alabama might be completely different from what works in Sweden, or Nevada, so implementing one size fits all standards will necessarily constrict the opportunities for people in certain localities. That's why I would prefer for a limited federal system that allows localities to mostly govern themselves.HennessyVSOP wrote:i just meant it was embarrassing to post your political opinion and then delete itchargers21 wrote:What's embarrassing about essentially copy/pasting the Libertarian Party platform? So what exactly is your plan in the event that the government suddenly declares war on you? Do you also have an arsenal of tanks, bombers, drones, heavy artillery, stealth fighters, etc., and highly trained operatives?chargers21 wrote: I don't have 30 round mags for hunting. I'm not sure about this. Do people have an inherent right to own chemical weapons? Nuclear weapons? Biological weapons?amta wrote:factors not dispositive to the right of owning high capacity magazinesforum_user wrote:So what exactly is your plan in the event that the government suddenly declares war on you? On the topic of guns, how do y'all feel about concealed carry on college campuses? The Chancellor at my UG just had to send all of the students info on where we can carry guns on campus and how to get licensed for it, since my state passed a law mandating concealed carry be allowed on public state campuses despite the general opposition to it by the college community. They did, however, remove the provision allowing guns to be carried at football games because the SEC was against it.

Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants (politics pole)
i mean, i have a very lockean conception of government by tacit consent and right to revolution. i think citizens have a right to any weaponry the government posses, which i understand is unrealistic, but i'm speaking theoretically. high capacity magazines and armalite rifles are just practical applications of that theory.luckyirish13 wrote:I'm not sure about this.
