I'm just going off the job placement numbers on US News and their website lol. On US News it is reported as 58℅Rigo wrote:Uh what? I get you're biased but you're giving USC way too much credit here if you're saying its prospects are better than UCLA (especially since they're currently worse for Biglaw+fed clerk, which is a decent proxy for placement power).Mr_Chukes wrote: Yeah UCLA's Job prospects aren't the impressive when compared to USC, Berkeley or Stanford.

I'd recommend just going off the hard ABA data.

I'm calling firms with over 100 attorneys BigLaw.
USC is ~37.6% biglaw+fedclerk.
UCLA ~45.1%
Berkeley ~56.5%

You could make self-selection arguments about Berkley's placement being artificially depressed because of self-selection into PI/govt (you could make the same arguments about UCLA too to a degree since they both send a decent 20% chunk of their classes into PI/govt) but just some hard data above without too much nuance.
Bottom line is any law school decision will be a trade off between cost and placement power.

Georgetown was at 44% this past year fwiw, with that being deflated to a degree by fedgov gunners.

I do think Berkeley is more prestigious and has national reach whereas UCLA is more limited to the west coast/southwest.
California biglaw is tougher to crack than NYC so numbers are also depressed a bit by grads intent on staying in CA, I'm sure.
You have to consider your goals and debt tolerance when comparing B to UCLA/USC. Or any schools for that matter.

I wasn't talking about big law. I was talking about general job placement. I got my info off US News Rankings, they have job placement there as well. Those are great numbers for UCLA big law though. If I get in imma look into it more lol. Thanks for the info broRigo wrote:Hm I don't know where they're getting that.Mr_Chukes wrote:I'm just going off the job placement numbers on US News and their website lol. It fluctuates a bit every year.nimbus cloud wrote: I guess the difference between UCLA and Berkeley is not as significant as I thought. If I had to guess, I would have said 33% vs. 66%.
For c/o 2015 it's
USC ~37.6% BL+FC
UCLA ~45.1%
Berkeley ~56.5%
For c/o 2014 it's
USC ~41%
UCLA 39.6%
Berkeley 62.4%
For c/o 2013 it's
USC 33.8%
UCLA 39.4%
Berkeley 55.8%
So UCLA had a pretty good year last year and Berkeley fell a bit. Who knows why exactly since employment data really just reflects hundreds of microdecisions made by graduates. It's probably better to look at the last three years rather than just a single year. It will be interesting to see c/o 2016 in May.

No worries! I just kind of wanted to shut down the notion that UCLA is inferior to USC in employment outcomes. If I had to nitpick I'd give UCLA the edge, but they're really as peer and peers can be.Mr_Chukes wrote: I wasn't talking about big law. I was talking about general job placement. 2/1 is "around 2/3". Hoping for a FR wave today, however unlikely it may be!

Another day slowly passes without me going UR.
I was hoping to get a Valentine's Day treat from Berkeley, my one true love, but this is getting more and more unlikely.
I still love you.
