I think you could ask get away with parroting one question. But only ever once in the entire interview.

I think parroting is a solid way of approaching it, as sometimes the interviewer will give you a better insight into what they're trying to get at with the question. I know for my interview, I hit the curve ball by remarking, "So, you're asking about my experience with X?" and then she said yes and went into a bit more detail about what she was interested in about it. I feel like with some of these curveball questions, it's easy to misinterpret them, so having a somewhat meta discussion is useful in order to get a better idea for what you actually need to say. I do this pretty often at work, as it's really hard to guess what questions people will ask of you.Li'l Sebastian wrote:I think you could ask get away with parroting one question. Remarking on the question's novelty itself, however, seems a bit disingenuous, while asking for a second can feel like you're delaying it more overtly.

Agreed that asking for a second makes it seem like you're stalling. Much better to just say "Good question" and take a second to think about it. I honestly don't think its bad to use that approach for multiple questions. It makes the interview feel more like a conversation.nacogdoches wrote:I think parroting is a solid way of approaching it, as sometimes the interviewer will give you a better insight into what they're trying to get at with the question. For what it's worth, I did go with the "good question" approach during my interview (I was thrown completely offguard by a question she asked that wasn't on any list I had seen, about the question I would ask if I were a Presidential debate moderator). I was accepted in the end, although I'm not sure if that was as a result of that stalling technique or in spite of it. Probably the latter.oliverotis wrote:Agreed that asking for a second makes it seem like you're stalling. Much better to just say "Good question" and take a second to think about it. For those accepted, all we have to do to be considered for scholarships is fill out FAFSA and Need Access correct? I haven't found anything indicating that Chicago requires an additional form.

Correct, needaccess for need aid and fafsa to take out fed loans. This is from their website:coffee247 wrote:For those accepted, all we have to do to be considered for scholarships is fill out FAFSA and Need Access correct? Every admitted student will automatically be considered for a merit-based scholarship; there are no additional steps or applications to complete. Notification of whether you have received a scholarship, as well as the amount of your scholarship (if you have received one), will be communicated to you through email after your admission.
If you would like us to consider financial need when determining your award, you must complete the Need Access Application. The deadline for submitting the Need Access Application is February 15. For anyone admitted after February 1, your Need Access Application deadline will be two weeks after the date of your admission.

My dad works in HR and was really impressed with someone who asked for a second to think about their answer. Especially because they were then able to provide a more coherent response that wasn't rambling.oliverotis wrote:Agreed that asking for a second makes it seem like you're stalling. Anyone have an idea as to when the next wave of decisions will be? I've been stuck at UR3 since 1/13 and I'm going bananas.

I'm still processing here, but I really don't think I can turn this down to pay $300,000 for impressing my in-laws with my Harvard hoodie.
