Riiiiiight. I'd guess they would have interviewed me were that the case, since they expanded their interview program so much this year, but we'll see. True, unless you're international, there is some huge giant weather issue (and they'll indicate this in your email), or its getting close to ASWsugg wrote:Okay, so the consensus is that big scholarship people do NOT receive the initial decision email and hear first by snail mail?
Any guess as to why they do this?tflan19 wrote:True, unless you're international, there is some huge giant weather issue (and they'll indicate this in your email), or its getting close to ASWsugg wrote:Okay, so the consensus is that big scholarship people do NOT receive the initial decision email and hear first by snail mail?
CLS's whole admissions process seems a little "nostalgic". They seem to prefer letting people know about big things (finaid, dings, lotto winning schollys) by mail rather than by email (which is used for holds, reserves, and regular admits). No clue whether they've found this builds more excitement? reduces people contacting their office? they just don't enjoy their email software? My guess for scholarships is that they probably have decided that opening your mailbox and seeing the offer is more exciting and makes it a bigger deal than just opening your inbox (thus influencing yield?). All I know is all this research has made my email acceptance yesterday very bittersweetugg wrote:Any guess as to why they do this?tflan19 wrote:True, unless you're international, there is some huge giant weather issue (and they'll indicate this in your email), or its getting close to ASWsugg wrote:Okay, so the consensus is that big scholarship people do NOT receive the initial decision email and hear first by snail mail?
Dings started coming in feb! However, it seemed like they put a TON of people on reserve/hold and then reserve, who didn't hear back pretty indefinitely. There was a lot of squirming for answers at the end of April.mpellenberger wrote:

I'll be up front - it wasn't a Hamilton/Butler.JusPassItToWill wrote:The only thing that gives me pause about that (and makes me think it might be a little different than from last year) is that slippin_jimmy reported that they received scholarship information via email. I don't think they fall into those categories (International, weather issues, close to ASW), so I don't know what to make of that. I guess it's possible that it's being done both ways?
Then again, I would really really love if it is actually coming by mail. I think I have pretty strong numbers (~50th GPA, >>75th LSAT) and didn't hear anything yesterday. Here's to hoping I find a blue envelope soon!
Nope, not a good enough excuse. I vote for collective shunning.slippin_jimmy wrote:Sorry to cause you all to go into collective neurosis with my poor wording. I was excite.

Hey, no worries at all, and you had good reason to be excited! Getting into Columbia and in the first RD round is incredible!slippin_jimmy wrote:Sorry to cause you all to go into collective neurosis with my poor wording. I was excite.
I would interpret that as a good, I mean, very good sign. I don't think they would say that to someone they were planning to ding.strawberrieee wrote:Interviewed today.
Did not ask when I'll hear back, but my interviewer said at the end of the interview "you will hear from us soon, i mean, very soon."
How should I interpret this? Probably next week?
I do want to say you should be hearing back probably within the next week or so, although when I interviewed back in Mid-November, the interviewer said the same thing, and I have yet to hear back yet. Take my experience with a grain of salt, though; now that RD decisions have started, I think it's likelier you'll hear sooner rather than later.strawberrieee wrote:Interviewed today.

First of all, huge thanx for doing all the research and compiling all the info.tflan19 wrote:CLS's whole admissions process seems a little "nostalgic". this is so interesting to me. got into NYU, and everyone tells me if you wanna be in NYC, go to CLS for Biglaw or NYU for PI. Did you opt out of OCI entirely? My main concern is different student-body-culture's surrounding PI at CLS vs. NYU, if that makes senseNebby wrote:For applicants interested in PI, me and all of the PI 3Ls I know have PI jobs lined up for post-grad. CLS is a criminally under-rated school for PI, imo

+1. I'm interested in PI, so would love to hear more about the general culture. Glad to hear the placement is great! Is it right to think it's fairly self-selecting?mabes wrote:this is so interesting to me. got into NYU, and everyone tells me if you wanna be in NYC, go to CLS for Biglaw or NYU for PI. +2. I've always been told to steer away from Columbia if you're interested in PI.slippin_jimmy wrote:+1. I'm interested in PI, so would love to hear more about the general culture. +4 The strength of NYU PI has been a huge positive factor in my consideration of it v. Columbia. Would be great to hear what you've experienced!pterodactyls wrote:+3 tell us more pleaseschocolate wrote:+2.
