What did you wear? I'm thinking of going pretty casual as it's not an admission interview.
Dude, hundreds of thousands of dollars might be on the line. Might behoove you to put on a tie.
Re: why they're interviewing for scholarships, I have no special knowledge, but it makes sense to me that they'd want to talk to people before making $ offers. If you can't demonstrate to them in an interview that you're at least somewhat likely to take the money if they offer it, I can see them wanting to save it for someone who would definitely go, but for the cost.

I was accepted around 9/15. Stats above both 75ths, no why Duke, invited for scholarship interview. Email was initially in my spam folder since my email has gotten so good at ridding itself of law school emails.

did you get the scholarship form on 9/18? that would definitely disprove my theory haha

This seems weird though. Lowballing people they've already admitted does nothing except hurt their yield. It would make sense as a YP tactic prior to acceptance.
I agree it does seem strange, but this is how I was thinking about it: Applicant X and Y both have >75th numbers. X shows interest in Duke in the interview, but Y doesn't. Duke has a finite amount of money to allocate for scholarships, so they allocate more money to X rather than Y.
It's not really YP, but a function of funds available (or at least that's my guess).

So this just came in for me, admitted PT in early September:
"Good evening,
Thank you for submitting your Duke Law Scholarship Application Form. I'm writing today to update you on a small change that was made after you applied. The (previously mandatory) interview is now optional, however we need to know if you're interested in scheduling an interview.
Could you please respond to this email to let us know if you'd like to schedule an interview?
If you are interested, you will be sent detailed information about scheduling your interview within a few business days. If you do not wish to interview, your response will allow us to proceed without waiting for an interview.
Thank you and please let us know if you have any questions.
Yours,
John D. Ahlers
Director of Financial Aid
Duke University School of Law"

Same here, I'm conflicted. I wonder if saying no to the interview would have an effect on the scholarship.

Just got the same email that p89sean did. Admitted PT on 9/22. Above both 75ths.

Same on the email. Very conflicted about how to reply--don't want to lose $$ but a day without an interview is much better than a day with one.

I am about to send i my PT app, and I'm curious: did you guys change your PS or write one specifically for Duke? I'm asking because my PS doesn't really address the second point in their prompt (career/personal ambitions).

Thanks. Did you essay already address both parts of the prompt?

Sent the same PS to all schools. My PS briefly discusses why law/career but only very, very briefly.

This might be a bit of a stupid question, but I'm a little confused about the NeedAccess part of the scholarship app. They said that financial aid offers will begin going out in late January, but don't you need to have all of your (and your parents') 2014 taxes completed to fill out NeedAccess? Do people in this thread really have all that info in early January? I don't even think I've received my W-2's yet. I'm wondering because my parents typically don't finish their taxes until mid-February and I wouldn't want that to hurt my financial aid package. Am I just missing something?

Merit aid will be going out in late Jan. They don't need any info for that.
On the need aid front though, some people either get their taxes done super early or they estimate based on last year and update with finalized numbers later.

Yeah, I think estimating is pretty common.

Do merit and need not come in the same package?

Yeah, this was my impression too. And it seems like your scholarship app wouldn't be complete until you submit NeedAccess if you indicate that you're applying for both merit and need-based aid. And does Duke actually award significant need-based aid? My impression was that you would only get it from the T14 if you were basically destitute, a ward of the court, etc., or that you wouldn't be eligible if you got significant merit aid, but Duke seems to be saying they have a sort of holistic financial aid process, I'm wondering how true that is....

For the scholarship interview, did they ask any questions regarding your resume (other than numbers)?

Yes they did. In fact, my entire interview was much more "tell me about yourself and your experiences" than I would have expected from the email description.

I sent in my PT app with the optional essay, and I'm just now realizing that my optional essay is all Why Duke with no Why Law. This isn't that big of a deal right?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
