In the email that went out before the letters, it says this:

"Our response system will allow you either to commit to us immediately or to hold a place in our entering class until June 1, when we will ask you to make a final commitment."

So it sounds like you can tentatively "hold a place" by April 16, but you don't need to make a final commitment until June.

Yeah, basically all you need to do by the April 16 deadline is tell them to hold a place until June which means "give me more time." At least that's how it was last year.

11/22 and without word here as well.

With reference to contacting the admissions office, I have done just that since that UR email, and it was received quite well. However, my question was not admissions related, more of just a Berkeley question. In fact Dead Tom personally forwarded my e-mail to the department/clinic for which my question was relevant to have it answered fully.

At this point, I would say you have already been identified as a candidate who is not a shoe in. As per that book by Anne Ivey I stole from a friend yesterday and paged through for 7 minutes (wish I had it before I did my apps), you probably fall into that 70% of applicants whose job is to stand out and show why you deserve a seat. I would definitely do one. In fact, I did one at the end of my PS that was about 3/4 a page, but once I get back from this snowboard trip (yes I am TLS'ing on my phone on the lifts), I am probably going to write a very specific why berkeley/LOCI. Even though I haven't been waitlisted yet, they will not have heard from me in almost 2 months. Might as well make my interest excessively known.

P.S. Most of this I would say applies more if the school is actually a reach or YP/Berkeley black box concern. If you are a shoe in, and your job is to NOT mess up your application , maybe be a bit more conservative.

I haven't kept up with the thread well enough to feel confident saying that 11/22 is a bad date to have and have not heard yet. My advice is mostly generic. And really, I am privy to nothing, I go off hunches like everyone else on here.

As an aside though, and not a Berkeley specific one, I really wish schools would reject as they go, and not do the wave rejections. I have a hard time believing that schools can justify sitting on the 2000+ apps they have already reviewed and passed over with the excuse that they need to see the rest of the applicant pool.

Looking at some schools like Berkeley on LSN, some people have submit days in Oct and didn't hear back until Feb. with no WL action or anything like that. I'm frustrated myself, but given the fact that so many people are in the 11/22 batch I presume one of three things is likely to happen:

1. They send out a final wave of acceptances to everyone in the 11/22 batch (99% optimistic thinking on my part) before they close up shop for the holidays. I doubt they will be sending dings or WLs on Christmas (I'm sorry Berkeley, I like you a lot, but if you WL me on Christmas Eve I'll shove a LOCI where the sun shines very infrequently)

2. 11/22 Batch will be the first wave of acceptances, denials and WLs combined. I think this is more reasonable going by past LSN graphs, plus it would make sense for them to do this, that way they can mostly focus on Dec. and later apps once the new year starts.

3. A combination of the two in which they send out the rest of the acceptances before friday, and the rest are all dings.

As it stands though, our numbers, stats and statuses (URM, non - URM, female, etc.) are so wildly varying (I'm a low GPA splitter, I see high GPA / At least median LSAT people still waiting) that I find it doubtful everyone in 11/22 is a rejection.

Mad parenthetical action there my bad.

Please read the above and take a look at LSN. Some people last year who submitted in September got accepted in the spring. Berkeley is weird.

I mean I couldn't tell you that at all iphone, but judging from the LSN graph, old applicant's submit date, and the TLS chart, we can surmise that if everything is similar to the past, Berkeley hasn't even sent out 35% or more of the acceptances (rough estimate). Now I might be kind of crazy using this thing called logic, but I doubt they are going to skip EVERYONE from before the 22nd, including you 10/27ers and admit the remaining 65-70% of the class from people who submitted in late November on. That not only gives them a very small pool to draw from, but with apps being down they can't bank on a huge influx of December people both applying and more importantly, matriculating.

In short, I'm pretty sure your aight, and if not, you won't know that you got dinged until at least next year (I suppose they could just decide to shit on everyone's post-Christmas cheer and send out WLs and rejections from the 26-29th, but honestly if I even heard they did that I'd withdraw even if I hadn't got dinged; that would be too trollish for me to deal with). Might as well enjoy the holidays and know that if you get correspondence from Berks within the next two weeks or so, you're likely in.

I'll let you know when to start fearing in a couple of weeks. I'll be the guy tossing computers and planning a time machine to go own my freshmen self in the face for my GPA.
