for those going to ND in the fall, how many are taking cars with them? Are they necessary? Im from LA and that would be quite a trek, but ive heard that they are particularly handy/borderline necessary in the winter. Any thoughts?

The email from Thursday said that people have until May 1 to respond to the survey, so I'm hoping we'll see some movement after that. It seemed to me at least that they want to fill the spots pretty quickly.

I have a quick question: I'm flying out of US on May 9th, so I'll need to update ND about my new phone number and address, in case I get off the WL. Do I just email the information to them?

I applied to Notre Dame 12 weeks ago. At 3pm today, I called the Admissions office to inquire about the status of my application. I was told I am in the final stage of review and I would receive an email and regular mailing sometime next week. Within 15 minutes of my phone call ending, I received an email stating, "we wanted to let you know your decision as soon as it was reached." It was a rejection. Strangely enough the email was sent from Wendy Barnes' email address but was signed Melissa Fruscione, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. Now, either I have the worst timing known to mankind, or ND forgot about my application, never reviewed it, filled their class already, and my call prompted an "oh f#ck!" reaction followed by a swift hush-hush rejection email. Am I making more of this than I should or is it as strange as it seems?

If you gave them your information, all your call did was expedite the review process and bring your file to the stop of the stack, or at least that's a reasonable possibility. They most likely did it as a courtesy.

I could however be wrong and it could be simple coincidence.

I got the same email. Also from Wendy Barnes and signed Melissa Fruscione.

I think when the assistants say, "The file is in the last stages of review"...it really means your app is somewhere in the review process so be patient, and I will tell you it is in the final stages to buy time. I think you calling the same day is just a coincidence (especially since I got the same email. Probably sent out a group of rejections this way today).

Regardless, good luck with the rest of your cycle.

They haven't filled the class yet so that cannot be the case. Your call probably just moved your file that was already marked "rejected" to the top of the list.

Good luck on the rest of the cycle.

Thanks. Another poster emailed me the same thing. I feel better knowing it was just a coincidence. Best of luck to you too.

Just accepted off the waitlist. 10k/year scholarship offer. (166/3.69).

I'll likely decline. Already committed to IU for a lot more money. Maybe I'll ask ND about offering more money, but...

Just FYI for the folks on this thread! I didn't write any continuing letters of interest, no "Why ND" essay. Almost sent them an updated resume because our newsroom was a Pulitzer finalist, but didn't before this.

I actually picked WUSTL (with a 30k/year scholarship). But Notre Dame's offer is still very tempting...
I definitely have to think about it. :?

I'm waitlisted at NDLS and really want to go there. I felt like we just fit well lol I never understood what people meant when they said that until I visited or how much that matters when picking a school for that matter.

Good luck on your decision making. And if you decide to not go to NDLS pray I get in please lol :) how long do you have to decide?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
