Re: University of North Carolina 2013
I was admitted with $25k scholarship (OOS) 4/5. Complete 12/15. Got some strange email 4/4 saying that I should rest assured that this email really was for me (they had had some problem with email acceptances?) and congratulations.
GPA 3.3 LSAT 160
Withdrew yesterday, I hope that frees up some aid.

Someone addressed this earlier in the thread, at which point I responded again. Since NC schools are heavily subsidized by NC tax payers, UNC included, they are pretty strict about their requirements for in-state tuition. The 'short form' for claiming residency asks you where you did everything from pay taxes, to vote, to earn income, in the last 3+ years.Emma1 wrote:I dont think it is impossible. I heard it is difficult for undergrad but not law school. Any other opinions out there? I'm sure many OOS decide to stay in NC to practice
Maybe it isn't impossible, but you're going to have to really convince them that you want to stay in NC for a while.

Re: University of North Carolina 2013
Word is (from people on this board and from talking to current law students) that to establish in-state you have to switch all of your info and "prove" that you want to live in NC permanently.
basically, it's tough and they don't just give out in state tuition to everybody, but it is certainly not impossible

Man, I walk away for a few hours and ya'll go crazy and make a ton of posts for me to respond to. and yes, I said ya'll. This is to prove to UNC just how badly I want to be a Southerner.
And yeah, we've pretty much determined that becoming an NC resident is nearly impossible for your 2 and 3L years.
Well I did the NSAC a few years ago, but I LOVED it. I gained a ton of experience, made great friends, and it helped me land a sweet job after graduation since I met some key people during the competition. And yeah, I can imagine that your friends spend all their time doing it. I literally spent 20 straight hours working on the project one day, slept a little bit, and then went back at it for 10 hours. But it was well worth it and I learned so much about what I'm personally capable of doing. I definitely believe that surviving that project means I can survive law school. Good luck to your friends!traehekat wrote: No, but two of my best friends here in school are like vice presidents or something. It's like, literally all they do, they are super into it. I used to be really into art and graphic design in high school, so I considered doing the creative side of NSAC when I transferred here as a junior, but in the end I guess I just didn't feel like it. How do you like it?
that was pretty clever! i can only hope that in this tangent universe, i get accepted too. here's to hoping for the both of us!traehekat wrote: I was admitted 3/12, no scholarship information here.

I can haz axseptinse?

A similar deal would induce me to drop a deposit on Carolina.Dostoevsky wrote:I was admitted with $25k scholarship (OOS) 4/5. Complete 12/15. I was thinking the same thing. And found it especially weird that the re-confirmation of acceptance e-mail came before the initial acceptance/scholarship.BlueHeel wrote:You were admitted in April? We are just giving you a hard time, Fyodor. I assume you mean 3/5, or are talking about last cycle.

Ha, no, not a Wake recruiter. I actually grew up in Winston-Salem, and also plan to turn down WFU to go to UNC, if that helps you.LSATfromNC wrote:msp wrote:
Are you a Wake Forest recruiter? Regardless, you just gave Wake a boost in my books. Do you happen to know how long people have to wait at the commuter park and rides?
The usual wait at the P&R lots depends on the time of day, and day of the week. From ~7 a.m. until 7 p.m., there's a bus every 15 minutes. Outside of those hours, you should have no problem parking on campus.

Alright everyone, the doubt and pessimism isn't working. We need a new strategy! I'm going to go with unbridled optimism and certainty of my admission.
Yup, any day now I'll be getting that email. Can't wait! No chance someone with my numbers, resume, and smile would be denied from North Carolina. Heh, I'm going to go fix myself some sweetened iced tea and start looking for housing in Chapel Hill.

Quick question: is e-mail is UNC's standard notification system for both acceptances and rejections?

Snail mail is reject/waitlist, email is acceptance. That's been the standard so far.j.wellington wrote:Quick question: is e-mail is UNC's standard notification system for both acceptances and rejections?

As far as I can tell, no scholarships have been offered yet. I think the post mentioning a scholarship was referencing last cycle.

No moves today on LSN, anyone out there hear from Carolina? Looks like it will be yet another week. If I do not hear from them by the 25th, I am going to be forced to send in my first seat deposit at Campbell. I would still go to Carolina if I got in past April 1st but I would sure love to keep my $200 UNC!!

Nothing in my email, either.

I emailed about the scholly info in the context of upcoming April uno deposits. They said the committee (who decides such fate) understands this and will hopefully roll out some monies in the next couple weeks. A very prompt and hope inducing response.
As for schollys and admit flow: These are the tar heels! That name does not suggest quickness out of the gate.

I'm sort of worried myself. No mail yesterday and no mail today. That's a good thing for now but what if there is something wrong with the mail and its on its way just not in my mailbox
I usually get mail at least every other day.

I haven't heard anything either. Getting in the same bind as Campbell wants their $$$ by the first. I'd still go to UNC, but I also want to keep my $200...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
