Running? That sounds like my sleepytime playlist.

I went through the same thing.
Just remember that it's better for the process to take longer and have something that feels right than it is to force an essay out.
Did you just have an epiphany where you knew you found the right topic?
I definitely thought I was onto something when I came up with my final topic and once I had a draft down I knew it was what I wanted the adcomms to know about me.

That's the biggest question I think you should ask yourself: what does my application not say about me right now that I would like it to and how can I show that to the adcomms?
That's a great way to look at it. Unfortuantely, I still don't have an answer. :(((((
I started by making a list of my positive qualities that I wanted to make sure that were covered in my application (leadership experience, analytical skills, etc) - which I then turned into a table where I marked in red/yellow/green each quality based on how well it was reflected in each of the components other than my PS (LOR, resume) (I have the benefit of having seen my LORs). Then I was left with several things that I felt hadn't been displayed strongly enough that I wanted to stressing my PS.
From there I brainstormed a bit, but mostly just started writing, free-association style. I started about twelve different statements - sometimes I wrote a full two-three pages and others I got a paragraph or two in and gave up - but I saved all of those drafts.
The statement I ended up with started out as a frankensteined medley of the parts of previous drafts that I most liked, and it ended up being something I'm really happy with.
I guess my advice is like benwyatt's (figure out what you have to say), and then experiment with how you want to say it.

Hi everybody! I've had a sort of hectic week. I've been clearing the army all week and preparing to move out of my apartment on Monday. Starting Monday I will be living in Waikiki beach for a couple weeks, fully funded by the army. So, if anyone is in Honolulu give me a holla (not you, lurker, the regulars). Then I leave this place to go out into the world.

I am going to respond to a few people.

@theugg My big focus for my personal statement was covering a big soft factor of my job that would not fit on a resume or anything. I wanted to show that I had dealt with some serious issues and had a bunch of real responsibility, and I think it really rounded out my application. Maybe think about what characteristic of yourself you want to show that you can't fit anywhere else.

@gobears What up dude? I just finished watching the whole series. I thought the first season was alright, then really liked 2-5, thought six was a little meh, and really liked 7. You will like Andy. He and another character were my favorite people on the show. I have other opinions on other characters, but some of my thoughts will be controversial and I realize that no one really cares about my thoughts on them.

@The Abyss I appreciate your avatar. I think everyone should follow the lead of Fips and Abyss and change their avatars to their cartoon reps. Just an idea...

@schocolate You're alright kid.

@Generally Sorry about your thread. I also voted for Obama in the original poll. I really like him, and would totally vote for him over any of the candidates running now. Also, I'm glad to hear the good news!

@Based Sorry about the crappy situation. Try to make the best of it. I hope you're out partying right now.

@all of the new people Let's try not to be dicks. I know it's hard for some of you, and you really want to type whatever thought you have at that moment. But you don't have to do it. You can take the dumb thought, and just keep it in your head. It is possible, and people will like you more if you do that. The world will go on if your opinion about something is not heard. Don't be a dick.

Hearts everyone! (especially Ms Hilde)

gobears!! wrote: Hey man! Congrats on closing up shop with the military; hope the process goes smoothly and you coast right on into that js1 to seal the deal. We all are pulling for you to take down the trinity! And that is pretty sweet you are getting put up in Waikiki on the military. After your service to the country you deserve it.

I just wrapped up season 2 and Andy is now one of my favorites. There is a lot more to go but I'm sure I'll power through and be done soon enough. It's about time I get all of thes P&R references...
I appreciate the sentiment. But if any of us is going to pull the trinity, it will probably be Salander. Or one of the newbies with some gaudy stats. If I get one of the three I'll be pretty stoked.

Ya, I think Parks and Rec was pretty good. Not all time favorite sitcom though. Tina Fey is too funny and awesome. I'm glad that I watched it though.

Is it SOP to send a thank you email after soliciting a fee waiver? I figure it is but also don't want to be blasting their email.

Saw this post and gave them a listen. Good stuff. I'm way behind on good music, probably because I constantly listen to My Morning Jacket, Ween and Wilco.

Guys, it's getting real.
Submitted half my apps today - the rest are waiting on waiver solicitations (or my neurosis kicking in and paying for all of them because after waiting for LSAT scores I don't know how much more I can take...)

PS - how long do I have to wait until I can start obsessively checking status-checkers? Do schools send out links in like a few days or only when they get the LSAC report and all...?

Have any of y'all decided what area of law you want to specialize in, or what kind of lawyer you want to be?
(This is the what do you want to be when you grow up question.)

Margot is SUCH a good band, as is the Lumineers. It looks like your tastes run pretty well with Barley's and mine. On top of all the other bands I've bandied back and forth on here, you and Barley (and everyone else for that matter), should also add Old Man Canyon to the list. :D
Oooh I like.

Are you ready for your marathon? :D

EDIT: I LOVE this one
