UC Hastings 2010!!! Forum

anybody know if Hastings is a mac-friendly school? My assumption is that most have to be...but I've heard rumors this isn't always the case at all schools because some test programs are not compatible.

Just wondering before I go out and buy a laptop...

Over half of Hastings students use Mac. No problems except when it comes to exams. You need to install Windows on your macbook to run the exam software. It isn't difficult...the IT guys at Hastings will help if need be. The problem is spending $100+ for a version of Windows (although they sold us Windows 7 for $29.99 when it first came out..not sure if that deal is still available)

Some of the student legislature people are trying to get Hastings to give out free windows copies to students. Money is tight though so don't hold your breath.

makes sense. 93+% of all computers in the world are windows. Macs are only like 5-6% and the rest are linux/unix variations. Using VMware to run windows is very simple. or Bootcamp that comes pre-loaded with Macs. I'll help you install it if hastings accept me!

i haven't heard anything since Oct. but if we send a LOCI interest now, and we get waitlisted what are we going to do then? i figure we should at least wait until April. i contacted them regarding my application since its been well over 4 months, almost 5 now, and they said that they will make a decision by the end of May.....

I contacted the Financial Aid office and they said they will begin releasing financial aid information in late-March / early-April IF you filed both your Need Access application AND FAFSA during January / early-February.

No. UC Hastings does not have a deferred admission program. We ask that you apply for admission when you are ready to attend. Admitted students who decide not to attend may reapply in subsequent years.

Well, that's embarrassing. Haha, I just re-read it. Looks like it is just for the first year. With or without, it's still an expensive school

The Blum scholarship I was offered was $10k for the first year, renewable with a 2.5 gpa.

Actually, it looks like all of the scholarships are renewable. It just isn't very clear in the email.

My email didn't say I got a Dean's, Merit, or Percy E. Towne Scholarship, but they are all renewable. Don't know what the requirements are though.

Maybe they don't want to make any promises because funding is questionable ... ? Whatever the case may be, I hope they are renewable.

I got the scholarship email yesterday. It says specifically that I've been rewarded the Percy E. Towne Renewable Scholarship Award, 10k "renewable as long as you continue to demonstrate need, and maintain a 3.0 grade point average."

Things have been pretty quiet on the Hastings front. Not much activity since late Feb on LSN.

Judging by last year's activity, we should be seeing a wave of activity relatively soon.

Just thought I would finally join the fun here. I've been lurking in this thread for a while. 3.78/163.

I'm visiting my brother at UC Berkeley in a couple weeks for spring break. Here's hoping Hastings gives me a reason to hop on the BART and check out the tenderloin while I'm there.

BTW, I've read somewhere that Hastings is looking to shrink their class size a bit in the coming years? Anyone have any solid info about that? Nothing I've read has been too definitive/authoritative.
