168/4.0 according to LSN.

Nice job on the 4.0. I still think that is more difficult than a 180.

Do you know how many 180's there are out there vs. how many 4.0's?

I'm skeptical. The date on my status checker has updated twice since mid-November with the same status (latest is 12/6) and I doubt it will be good news for me. There may be meaning to it but I wouldn't count on it always being a positive.

Could I get you to give me a call at this number: [number]?

Look forward to talking with you.

Called and he commented on my P.S. and offered me the spot!! The call was so very nice and cordial and I'm very excited!!

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted! :D

So the pending review/decision date updates before you hear about the decision? That's how it sounds... I'm ready to hear either way!

There are probably more 4.0s than 170+

11 people on lsn for this cycle claim to have 180's, about 50 claim to have 4.0 or better.

I recognize there are far fewer 180s than 4.0s. My statement doesn't make a lot of sense, but let me give some caveats.

First off, I should say perfect As are what I thought were more difficult than 180s. The 4.3 adjustment throws things off.

Second, I am excluding degree factories where a pulse is a sufficient condition for a 4.0.

Third, when I say "difficulty," I am referring primarily to the amount of work required to achieve it. I think the consistent effort needed to achieve a 4.0 is harder to put in, then the amount required to score near a 180. In connection with that, I think that most of the 180s have certain degree of luck to them that a 4.0 GPA doesn't have. There are some gifted individuals who can score a 180 more than 75% of the time, but I think they are a very small percentage of the people who actually score a 180. The vast majority (in my opinion) are people who typically score between a 175-180 and have the right test on the right day. Contrast that with a 4.0 which doesn't have the same type of luck.

Do my caveats make my statement any less incredible? If not, I probably ought to reconsider my position, but it seems to make sense to me right now.

okay just for hypothesis sake non-splitter, RD, non-urm. Borderline numbers--typically waitlisted but occasionally accepted. Been UR for slightly over a month, never updated. I am currently in the little block of space on LSN between where the acceptances begin and where the highest numbers-WL has put themselves. Thoughts on how it will turn out?

Well, it's not a big deal, and I can see what you're getting at, I'd actually agree that having a 4.0 is impressive in certain ways that a 180 is not. You only ever have one chance for each class, anything less than an A and you're 4.0 is done forever. Hell, for a 180, you can often get as many as 2 questions wrong! But I can't resist pointing out this no-true-Scotsman fallacy here:
Second, I am excluding degree factories where a pulse is a sufficient condition for a 4.0.
So, a 4.0 is harder to get than a 180, and the easy to get 4.0's just don't count?:)

he DID reference the PS in his phone call though, as opposed to the 4.0. Nice that he read it!

Patience, grasshoppers. I was complete for a long time before my acceptance. I had lost all hope. Now, all is well in the world.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
