Unsure if this has been brought up before, but:
At the top of the status checker, it says: "Thus, it is the policy of the Admissions Committee that every file be reviewed by at least two, often times three, members of the Committee."
...does this mean our status checkers SHOULD update "at least two, often three" times?
(I'm bored, and may have felt like fueling some more obsessive neuroticism

Including my own)

I think that you're right; at least, other schools update every time someone new accesses the file.

Aww, damn
I was hoping I was wrong... since I've been stuck at UCR since 10/28 and don't really have comfortable numbers.

If you're RD like me, you won't hear for a while anyway. If you're ED, disregard my previous comment.

RD, hah. I wish I were like you... nice numbers
I know RD decisions won't be out for a while, but being UCR at the same date for over 6 wks doesn't seem to bode well.
Oh well.

For those who got the email requesting fall grades, I responded asking if this meant we were deferred or if we would be evaluated for ED once they received our fall grades. I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I hear. aobrown, let's hope they can find room for us both, I have a feeling our fates will be the same. I'm pulling for all of us EDers! We're still alive.

No, you don't wish that you were like me regarding this particular school. Penn is famous for YP. Before taking the LSAT, I calculated my probabilities of admission to all of the schools that use the LSAC predictor. When I scored several points higher than I had expected, I calculated again. All of the probabilities went up. Except one. Penn went down.
That said, I don't really understand why they YP when they require at least one extra essay. Surely that scares people who aren't all serious?

FWIW, my status checker has been updated twice already. I'm RD.

See I don't understand that. I'm ED and mine hasn't updated since the initial UCR, which was on 10/26.
I don't know if that's an auto-admit, auto-reject, or what. You would think if it was either, they would have gave me my answer on the first day of notifications (yday).

From Penn email:
"The Admissions Committee has completed its preliminary review of your application and has decided to hold your file for further review"
I believe I have been deferred to the regular notification pool. Anyone disagree?

As long as you don't receive a decision by 12/31, you're released from your ED contract by breach. Other than that, it essentially means nothing. Likely, it's equivalent to being deferred.

I wouldn't ask that, actually (except anonymously). It might be seen negatively?

Or, you just want to make sure that you want them to remember that you EDed and that you continue loving Penn, despite temporary heartache it is giving you?

By the way, i don't think it matters, since, as far as i can remember, once you EDed at Penn, you are not allow to ED anywhere else IN THAT ADMISSIONS CYCLE. That is how i remember it anyway. let me know if you have any contrary info.

Penn's only considerations in the ED contract are that you'll have a decision by 12/31, no? Then, despite the email they haven't breached their contract unless it's 2010 and you don't have a decision.

why would it be negative? if they want to bind you with ED they would still get that benefit even if you weren't gung ho about it, it's either a contract or it's not
If the answer is yes, it frees you from your ED contract, then I think wanting that would hurt your RD chances.
