I think you're UR3, with UR1.5 just before the interview, but I'm no expert. I wouldn't read too much into it.theconsigliere wrote:How many date changes after interview? Interview was definitely pleasant and not confrontational at all! I was worried for no reason I guess
Only one weird question.

Also, if anybody gets a Ruby, I expect you to tell us all about it before the tears of joy dry.

Just went UR2 (UR1 in December), never had an interview or an invite. Probably not a good sign, right?

Do you mean what UR 1.5 technically means? Or what it signals for your application?Draconem wrote:Anybody have any idea what the UR 1.5 means?
According to the "what to expect when you're expecting" thread, UR 1.5 is just another date change in between UR 1 and the interview request, and not everyone gets it. I never had UR 1.5, went straight from UR1 to interview invite, and I was admitted last week. As for what it signals... I'm tempted to say that it doesn't really mean anything, but correct me if I'm wrong!

Do we know when ASW is?
Not that I'm admitted yet. Just wondering. And feeling hopeful.

My suggestion would be business dress, simple makeup, neat and simple hair. Nothing distracting. I wore a nice black sweater with a simple necklace, put my hair in a neat professional ponytail, put on subtle eyeliner and mascara, and used some BB Cream to even out my skin tone.
Imagine you're going out to lunch with someone you want to network with. The big difference is that you can wear sweats on the bottom

Just realized you might be a guy--sorry! They say on the website to treat it as a "professional interview," so that's what I would keep in mind when dressing. I'm afraid I can't give my opinion on what that might mean for men.

I went with the online interview special - suit on top, boxers on bottom. I think lighting is important, be sure you're not all shadowy. They recommend natural light behind your computer.jleon25 wrote:I'm sorry if this has been addressed already, but I could not find it after quickly searching the forum.

I think my answers were okay.. Not spectacular, but I think they got the job done.Timantha wrote:I'm a Canadian applicant too, but I didn't get asked any Canada-related questions or surprising questions... Hopefully you did much better than I could, though, and do you think there was anything in your application that prompted interview questions about current world events? Or did it feel completely random?
I'm a business undergrad, so I'm not really sure where the question came from. Honestly, I think it was just an improvised question to see how I would react when thrown off guard.

Just because we're all on the topic of being thrown by interview questions (particularly with Chicago), I just wanted to offer some advice for anyone who's really stressing about the curveball questions! I took a speaking course quite awhile ago, but one of the best pieces of advice I got regarding dealing with tough interview questions was to react with, "wow, that's a great question!" or something of that ilk.
It gives you some time to gather your thoughts, demonstrates that you're putting in effort to come up with a thoughtful answer instead of just mindlessly reciting something, and has the added bonus of complimenting the interviewer for his or her question. Plus, it helps disguise some of the "oh s***!!!" that you're likely feeling.

Yes! I highly recommend this as well! Just don't get into the habit of saying to every other question lol.supertrooper312 wrote:Just because we're all on the topic of being thrown by interview questions (particularly with Chicago), I just wanted to offer some advice for anyone who's really stressing about the curveball questions! Re: Chicago C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I've interviewed a lot of people for jobs and I have to say you're much better off saying, "Interesting, can I have a moment to gather my thoughts" or some other version of that rather than, "wow, that's a great question." If I'm the interviewer and you say, "what a great question" I always think, "I wouldn't have asked it if it wasn't a great question." Assume the interviewer has spent time preparing for the interview. They don't plan on asking you a question that isn't a good one. That's just my take and perhaps I'm a little too hard on people but I often have a worse opinion of people who say, "that's a great question." Also, it's not uncommon to ask for a few moments to gather your thoughts. This is the corporate recruiting suggested method during consulting and investing banking interviews if you're tripped up by a question or don't have an answer prepared.

Re: Chicago C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
That's an interesting perspective, and something worth thinking about. I'm not sure, however, that the choice here was "wow, that's a great question" or "Interesting, can I have a moment to gather my thoughts." It was really more about finding something to do when you're totally blindsided by the interviewer's questions. My suspicion is that either of those two options is preferable to deafening silence and a terrified expression. Perhaps you'd be happier with "wow, that's a really interesting question" rather than something implying that your other questions were not great as well?hopingtogo2016 wrote:I've interviewed a lot of people for jobs and I have to say you're much better off saying, "Interesting, can I have a moment to gather my thoughts" or some other version of that rather than, "wow, that's a great question." Also, in my experience, if I make an effort or prepare well for something and someone is polite enough to acknowledge it, my response doesn't tend to be "well, obviously I did well."
I am, however, still chuckling at the thought of a hypothetical exchange like that.
"Wow, you're outfit looks great!" and "Well, yeah, obviously it does. I wouldn't have worn it if it wasn't a great outfit."
