Congrats to all the Dillards!!
However, to me, all of these arguments seem forced. Which I completely understand, what else is one to do with the few facts we know? But, to me, there does not seem to be any substantiation in any grounded admissions processes.

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Okay, you're starting this post with a home run argument. I think we all know why Xylocarp received a Dillard.pto1993 wrote:Fundamentally I think they are taking a hit in numbers over the next few years for long term investment of a sexier Dillard.
I'm not as sold on the rest of the argument, in part because I have a 75th LSAT and a 4.0GPA and haven't been invited to interview. The problem is that we have early cycle Dillards - like Xylo, Hillz, and Pulstar - with 75th LSATs and high GPAs and mid-cycle Dillards with median LSATs and high GPAs. Why give up on the high LSAT people midway through the cycle? Shouldn't you use your Dillards on reach candidates to skim them away from $$-$$$ at T6? You may cite YP, but UVA recently gave a 174/3.98 $105k. What??? If you don't want to give Dillards to double 75ths because you think they wouldn't come to UVA you would WL them all.
Plus, UVA would be taking a tremendous gamble with their ranking and prestige by gunning for high GPAs over high LSATs. After all, rankings are hugely determined by numbers. I'd be surprised if the school was ready to back that kind of play when so many schools are struggling.
But we'll see. Congratulations to all of the Dillards - I'm jealous and I hope to join your ranks soon!

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
I dunno man, the reverse splitter wishful thinking is definitely off the mark, but it's possible that they are trying to improve the Dillard brand with really strong softs candidates...in order to ultimately attract more high scorers.lc39 wrote:Mack.Hambleton wrote:Highly doubt that
But Spivey is probably right that they got a big money dump or something this year.

Yeah, they must all have some sort of special sauce to get selected. For some, maybe that's softs. Congrats to all you guys!

Also seems like they want to offer the Dillard to some number of people who they are sure will take it. Maybe makes building the class easier or something of that nature.

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Shout out to Mack for asking Spivey about the UVA situation. Here's Spivey's response.
If he's right that the LSN/TLS data is misleading us, then things should shake out in the cycle. But that doesn't explain endlessparmesan on LSN or KissMyAxe here receiving abnormally low offers. Again, if you think a double 75th won't attend UVA, wouldn't you waitlist that candidate rather than offer a scholarship that guarantees he/she won't attend? This is like reverse-YP. It's YS - yield suicide.MikeSpivey wrote:Well, it's peculiar. One would guess that it is a combination of a large amount of money to give thus year (either a one-time dump from central university or their dean is a great fundraiser) + they are projecting other schools suffer drops and trying to beat them to the punch of shoring up their numbers. BUT, when you do have a lot of money to give, AND it is a down year in applications, that is PRECISELY when you try to make your move...not hedge your bets.Mack.Hambleton wrote:Want to speculate on why UVA is giving out lots of full rides to below median people?
So my best guess is either once again the LSN/TLS data simply is very small (I vaguely remember an admissions colleague calculating it was 4% of the entire pool one year), or they aren't doing things the way they should?

Re: UVA c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Personally I'm hoping that's not true since my LSAT is stronger than my GPA, but it also seems like they could attract students in that category (median or lower LSAT, high GPA) with less than a Dillard. So I think there's more to it than that.KissMyAxe wrote:I don't even come close to buying that. I'm not going to share my softs on here since they would out me (I might via PM though), but I think it's safe to say softs are not a major factor here (I have strong ones). I only got $105,000, which doesn't really compete with my other offers and has soured me on the school. I think that it's likely they realize their LSAT is going to drop and so they've given up the fight to preserve that median and are trying to shore up their GPA numbers instead. Congrats to those who did get Dillards though.nosocat wrote:Yeah, they must all have some sort of special sauce to get selected. For some, maybe that's softs. Congrats to all you guys!

Also not going to give out my softs on here and I won't with a PM, but mine aren't particularly strong. Not under average, but I don't have a purple heart or anything (I'm also a KKJD). Even though I'd like to believe that I have some 'special sauce' that triggered the dill, I can't look at my app and see anything truly special. I didn't even write a why uva. My bewilderment equals nickhalden's. I feel lucky and really grateful, though, that's for sure.

Got in super early/quickly to UVA and I'm in love. But I'm dying for some scholarship info.
25th<GPA<50th, 75th<LSAT, excellent softs, spectacular interview. Bit of a splitter, although my academic recs call me an exemplary student in strong language.
I still haven't submitted FAFSA and NeedAccess, is that the hold up? Or am I not going to see anything?

Timeline is about 2-3 months to get the scholarship offer for most people. Wouldn't worry yet.MagillaCutty wrote:Later November (within two weeks of submitting).Winston1984 wrote:When were you admitted?MagillaCutty wrote:Got in super early/quickly to UVA and I'm in love. Thanks. That's not going to happen, but I appreciate the sentiment, at least.Winston1984 wrote:Timeline is about 2-3 months to get the scholarship offer for most people.
