Sorry I haven't really been following this thread so sorry if I missed this happening, but last I had seen no one had gotten a JS1b and we weren't sure they would do them. I just saw though that someone posted on the spreadsheet that they got a JS 1 post WL after already having one pre WL.

So they are doing JS1bs....?

I don't know, it could be an error. Out of all of us pre-WL JS1s, only one gets a JS1b?

I guess we'll never know since the person is a self-described lurker.

I'm sure nobody cares about this anymore, but I found the person on TLS. Profile says WL-->JS1 so I'm changing the spreadsheet to fix the error.

I don't think they would do JS2s next Monday. Reasoning: some of the original (4/5) JS1 invites may have signed up for JS1 interviews during the week next week (I think it was open then). Thus, that initial group of WL-->JS1s won't be fully vetted until the week of May 20.

ETA: Though it looks like there won't be very many interviews the week of 5/13, so you could be right. They might start then.

That's why I've been predicting they'll wait until the 20th. If they have a very large number of spots to fill, they might do just a few JS2s to get them out of the way while waiting to finish the rest of the JS1s before filling all the rest.

Again, still think it won't be until the 20th. But hey, it's Harvard. They do what they want.

As long as the wave comes before my next deposit deadline at UVA I can't really complain.

Thanks guys! I went and got a blazer tailored for it so I won't look homeless like I was worried about. (I'm very much abroad for those of you who are wondering why I would look homeless). This cycle is so weird that I have no idea if I should be optimistic or not. Don't break my heart Harvard. Don't do it.

But fellow potential UVA buddies, if this doesn't work out we have low COL and the amazing Charlottesville Whole Foods (where I'd make up for the low COL) to comfort us.

No post-post-WL-JS1 LOCIs right now unless you have a significant update. There's no point; it's not like they've skipped over your app. In general LOCIs to Harvard aren't necessary unless you actually have something significant with which to update, because Harvard already knows you like Harvard.

If you are still around in August then you might send a LOCI.

Had KB1 today. She said it would be at least a couple weeks, probably several, before they made any decisions.

I would guess the week of the 27th.

I think this was a rumor started when a lot of TLSers in one particular wave of JS2s happened to have interviewed with JS. A lot of TLSers who interviewed with KB at the same time weren't accepted until the next wave of JS2s. I think it was a coincidence.

When writing a LOCI -

How long should it be? I'm basically writing the loci to say 1) at this point i'm still interested and would accept off the WL and 2) I graduated with honors blah blah and am working developing x y z skills. Is 2-3 paragraphs acceptable?

Do you send the LOCI in the body of an email or as an attachment? If the latter, do you have to print, sign, scan and attach the LOCI? (I saw someone say they sign it..)

How do you address it? " To whom it may come" " Dear Dean X " ?

How do you close? "sincerely" "warm wishes" "best" "hope to hear from you soon"

Any overall thoughts?

Mine was about a page single spaced at size 11 Times. This included the addresses, salutations, etc. so the actual content was maybe 1/2 a page to 2/3 page. Mine was 4 paragraphs with this structure: 1) I'm still interested in H, and these are programs/clinics/etc I know I'm interested in particular; 2) I know I'll bring x, y, z to Harvard, 3) these are some (minor) updates, and 4) reiterate Harvard #1, say you'd accept off of the waitlist, and wrap things up briefly. I do think my letter probably ran on the long side of the spectrum.

I sent mine as a pdf attachment to an e-mail that basically said "please add this to my file", and I used a digital copy of my signature (ie a picture of my signature that I embedded into the word doc). I addressed it to JS since she sent out the WL email and interviewed me. Obviously, I have no idea if my letter worked, but I felt that it was pretty decent/professional.
