Congrats everyone! Suddenly my 165 just lost what little promise it had, hah.

Has anyone with a 165 or lower and high GPA been offered in this wave of offers? Seems like this would be valuable knowledge for those still who are unsure about the motive here...

Congrats again from a butt-hurt waitlister, I am 100% jealous!

I have not seen any 165ers mention being offered it, but have seen 166ers with even relatively low GPAs, so you never know. Best of luck :D
This was my point. I think a 166/2.x will get the full ride before a 165/4.0. We'll see either way! Congrats again!

I mean it's obvious they used the money to send out some Hail Marys to some promising recent withdrawals, but can you really blame them? If they suddenly have the money why wouldn't they try something like that? I don't think it's solely to buy a median though because simultaneously they offered a bunch of their locked in students full rides/larger scholarships. Like I said earlier, it seems like admissions is hell bent on spending every cent of the windfall they just got, which made me think it was a budget thing. The idea that they just didn't want to deal with pissed off students doesn't really make sense...what were we going to do, not go to WashU because we were mad we didn't get bigger scholarships?

I don't blame them in the slightest and I think it's clear that they didn't have this money earlier or they would likely have shot for a 167 median. I would agree with the bolded statement above as well, except I haven't seen one student below the 166 line, locked in or not, who was offered a full ride in this wave, which I think signals the intention pretty clearly.

I'm also certainly not pissed at anyone other than myself, since I'm the one who screwed the pooch on the LSAT and didn't hit the magic number. Then again, I have a shamefully low GPA - if I had a 4.0 and 165 or 164, I might not be the happiest camper right now.

No blame, no surprise, anger, or frustration, I just think it's a move that's not that hard to evaluate after a glance at LSN and one that doesn't bode well at all for those of us waitlisted.

It also tempts me to wait for LSAC to allow me to take the LSAT a fourth time; next year's cycle is going to be bananas, especially given the amount of schools that still are accepting June takers. I wish I weren't a senior citizen...

Just a note on the locked in students getting more.
Everyone seems to be saying there is a ton of T14 waitlist movement. As someone who had second deposited and withdrawn from my other admitted schools (locked in as people above have been saying), if one of my T14 wait lists had come through I would have been much more easily tempted to jump two days ago than now with the extra money.

Last year, we got the orientation schedule August 7th and our section assignments August 8th. We were able to check Webstac for our schedules once we knew what section we were in.

As for the recent onslaught of good scollys, consider this. At the end of 2012 WUSTL embarked on a 2.2 billion fundraising campaign. They are already halfway toward that goal and anticipate a final campaign number closer to 3 billion. One of the purposes of the campaign is to raise the level of the law school, engineering school and business school to the prestigious level of the medical, undergraduate and social work divisions. As a result, expect strong scholarships (with increased competition) and hiring of prominent faculty from other institutions over the next few years. This has been in the works for some time.

Moral of the story: WUSTL rewards loyalty while all of us who jumped ship before the first deposit are getting the "I told you so" debt from other schools.

This has been in the works for some time.
Of course, it has been. (Those that think the manna just dropped from heaven don't understand organizations, and in particular, educational organizations.)

But the real question is, 'Why Now?' (From a marketing/pr standpoint, the College would get a much bigger bang for its buck by announcing months ago.)

How does that explain WashU's groveling to some students who had already withdrawn?

The real question is, "what's 'tuition'?"

1.) A St. Louis or Missouri Native

2.) Someone who either visited or directly expressed a desire to attend WUSTL to MAC or JL.

Both of which makes sense, as those would be the most likely people they could entice. Again, since there was no reason why I should've gotten the boost, I'm firmly in the #JLcares #MACcares group.

It's something you pay for a undergrad education. I think.
Or people who just asked for more money previously to drive up offers at other schools.
