I just realized they got rid of the "must maintain good academic standing" language in the full ride letters. So you guys just need to relax and have fun in law school. No need to gun muhahaha

Yeah all of those ND v. WUSTL would be a lot simpler. I would hate myself if I picked ND.
I am also somewhat regretting withdrawing, but how could any of us known this would happen. It's poor planning on the school's part to only be realizing their full budget at the very end of the cycle. They could have been throwing out full rides in the beginning and gotten people (me included) to have no choice but to happily commit.

Now that WUSTL has handed out a slew of full rides, people need to declare their loyalty.

Does anyone know why this is happening? (I saw a while back someone said the larger institution increased the budget, but this seems INSANE)

As for the increased budget, it really is in WUSTL as a whole's benefit to give more money to the law school. The undergrad and med school are both highly ranked. They probably want WUSTL Law up in the T14 to boost their reputation overall.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I'm just assuming they're using their huge endowment to buy medians and up their ranking, but who knows. There's at least 15 people that I know of who got this, so that's $2.2 million of their scholarship budget dropped on those people alone. I guess if they have that kind of dough to throw around then they might as well?

Zippy chance WUSTL gets ranked above 19. No way they jump any of the UT/Vandy/UCLA/USC subgroup let alone Georgetown.TigerChick13 wrote:If I had to guess, I would say it's a combination of something niceMagnalum wrote:Hey guys, congrats to all who received the offer. Does anyone know why this is happening? (I saw a while back someone said the larger institution increased the budget, but this seems INSANE)and something that will act as a lure to future applicants. "Oh, look at how many full ride scholarships WUSTL hands out! Let's apply here!" Also, more kids with less loans = more diversified career choices. If we're not all "biglaw or bust" due to student loans, more people can focus on getting clerkships and public interest jobs. That will draw in more applicants as well.

We were tied with USC at #18 last cycle. Also our reputation scores are, if i remember correctly, exactly tied with USC. Our job placement is lower, largely because we're in St. Louis (tiny market) and near Chicago (market that got destroyed by recession) and USC is in, i dunno, like the 2nd biggest market in the country. But there's no reason why couldn't tie or pass USC, it'll come down to the medians.BigZuck wrote: Zippy chance WUSTL gets ranked above 19. Didn't know that about the reputation score, I thought it was lower. That's the main reason I didn't think it was possible to pass USC. I guess then maybe it comes down to what USC can pull off with its medians. I know they went after 167s pretty hard but from the USC thread it sounds like most of the 167s weren't going for it. Should be interesting but I just don't see it happening.cusenation wrote:bananasplit19 wrote:I don't think he was serious about moving into the T14, but if they're flashing the cash, I think it's feasible they at least join the 15-18 crowd as a solid peer school.

Do we know how much employment really factors in and how it factors in?

Rankings methodology:
U.S. News wrote:Placement success (weighted by 0.20)
Success is determined by calculating employment rates for 2011 grads at graduation (0.04 weight) and nine months after (0.14 weight), as well as the bar passage rate, explained below.

I thought for some reason they were going to change how they calculated employment, isn't that how it's always been?
Anyway, of course WUSTL is a good school, top 20 material, it's just that people always speculate about these crazy jumps and stuff but it almost never really materializes. Becoming a true T18 (I know, lol@ that term) would be really, really tough and a T14 next to impossible. If UT can't jump GULC then I can't see WUSTL doing it.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
If anyone was offended by me saying that the school is desperate (I know one person did based on their PM to me), sorry, wasn't my intent. But when a school is throwing fullys to people who are under both medians from just two years ago that shows that they are desperate to shore up their medians this cycle. I think tons of schools are pretty desperate this cycle given the fall in apps and less high LSAT scores and I for one am really happy about that because I have had much better results than I expected. And so have many of you it seems. I think it's awesome for you guys and I am sincerely happy for you all.BigZuck wrote:dat desperation?Magnalum wrote:Hey guys, congrats to all who received the offer. Re: WUSTL c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
The WUSTL endowment is larger than that of Berkeley, UCLA, UVA, USC, NYU, Georgetown, and Cornell. WUSTL is simply buying out the competition just like U Chicago did when it wanted to get more prestigious. Never underestimate the power of our endowment! Better to spend the money on getting the best students than on ritzy faculty housing like NYU does.Magnalum wrote:Hey guys, congrats to all who received the offer. This seems unprecedented.
