In the end, although they may not allow you to switch to ED, I would by all means encourage you to reach out to them with a LOCI and a request to switch to ED ... if for nothing else, it will demonstrate your committment.

This may be a silly question, but how do you send a LOCI? To the admissions office or via LSAC update? Thanks. (NU is my very very very very very very first choice, too... sigh.)

Straight to the admissions office, typically via snail mail.

I just sent it yesterday and haven't heard anything. I emailed it, so hopefully they don't ignore it. I was complete 11/3 so I'm due for a decision this week, and I didn't want to wait for it to get mailed only to not get there in time.

They will probably have to eat your acceptance letter, and your entire application, for sustenance if the lockdown goes on for too long. Bummer.

yep...and had my interview today. I submitted my app on 10/2; didn't receive and email by the 21st and called to check. They resent the email dated 10/13 to me the next day.

This kind of stuff can happen anywhere. There was a shooting at the Walmart I used to shop at (while I still lived near it and still shopped there), in an otherwise really safe neighborhood.

I'm not saying this crosses Northwestern off my list, but it's definitely something I am thinking about. Northwestern also does not have security guards at the door (maybe they will change that now).

The Law School building is currently closed due to an emergency situation. We are all safe and will update when we reopen.

Northwestern is still in a safer part of the city than schools like UChi, NYU, and possibly even Columbia. Even so, it's a reality of city life, but your odds of actually being one of those people held at gunpoint are extremely slim.

and you can go to school in columbine where the whole place gets shot up.
this isn't really much of an argument. this stuff does and will happen anywhere.

"more likely" in cities, "more catastrophic" in suburbs.

NU is in a great part of town. it's just off the magnificent mile (huge tourist spot if you aren't familiar; it's like 5th ave is to NYC) and it's right by lake michigan. i don't see how someone could complain legitimately about the location unless it was general "but chicago is cold!" whining.
