I heard that they often allow informal meetings/interviews with admissions officers if you come in person. It's not formal but I heard that if you make a good impression that it could help (vice versa if you make a bad impression of course).

If anybody has done this, do they have any tips or suggestions?
Was thinking of doing the exact same thing on Friday. Thoughts anyone?
I would say call ahead of time and let them know you will be in the area, and would like to know if you could stop by. The reason I say this is because I visited last spring, and when I got to the admissions office--the student up front just handed me a self-guided tour pamphlet and told me to have at it (thought this could be because class was out). I wasn't able to talk to anyone in admissions (even though I could see them roaming the office). The person that ended up being the most helpful was someone I met at the CLS library (one of the full-time staff). She took the time to tell me all about the library--though this wasn't exactly what I had hoped to get out of my campus visit.

As far as visiting classes go--they might be out for finals, which is unfortunate. You might be able to find some students that you could talk to if you would find that helpful.

More and more I'm thinking that they're done accepting ED applicants and the next people to hear will be by deferral/rejection mail.

I don't really believe that. According to the admissions blog, the dean said that they won't even being looking at RD people until January. That means they still have a lot of work to do on the ED folks.

According to LSN, they have already taken more ED applicants than they took the whole of last year.

And this is more my realistic side speaking rather than my pessimistic side.

Antigua is wonderful this time of year. And it's a nice break from the NYC hustle and bustle.

ehh, some of those points may be flames- i.e. jose, the 3.28/173 who applied 2 cycles ago, and is not a urm, despite having the name jose, or daninreallife- yes, i actually looked at each point (though i'm sure you did too)

maybe more people are reporting they applied ED this year than last
maybe more people are using lsn this year than last year
maybe cls is accepting more people ED this year

there are a lot of people who dont post their stats/decisions, so i wouldnt be too quick to assume things based off what you read on lsn

.... yep, im just rationalizing

could cornell, nyu, berkeley, michigan, or uva just throw me a bone and accept me? the temporary euphoria of an acceptance would distract me from columbia for at least 36 hours

I think we have two waves left, and by waves i mean a hand full of people. Columbia had people get in ED every week till xmas last year IIRC

More people use LSN each year. I also think that if Columbia receives more ED applicants that are qualified this year, they will just accept more.

I think there will be some more acceptances this week, and possible again next week. There are still a lot of 4.3x+ indexes out there

Yeah. I think bulk of them may have gone out, but I'd be shocked if at least a handful more TLS/LSN people don't sneak in before January. Just reading through last years thread, a few people trickled in well after the waves passed by. The fact that there seems to still be quite a few ED 4.3 indices out there doesn't leave me too hopeful, but the fact they haven't accepted any >75% LSAT splitters gives me a glimmer of hope yet.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense for a school to have some sort of limit on how many ED applicants they take, either. If someone is qualified to get in RD and is sure not to hurt your yield, why wouldn't you accept them regardless of how many other ED applicants you had already accepted?

Do all Columbia's complete e-mails end with "Good luck in the admissions process and we hope
to welcome you here as a member of the Class of 2013!" ??

What kind of tease is that?!?! And sending it to all the e-mail address they have for me. That was fun last night.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
