The credited response is phone call unless you're abroad, in which case, an email will be sentNYPDLAW wrote:sorry if this has been asked but are JS2s by phone call only or do they send an email too(ie if you happen to be abroad, etc)

JS1! Doing late next week because of scheduling stuff.
Super excited. Should I be adding something to the Googledoc? Will check OP.
Also: is there a written record (here on TLS) of what they discuss in the JS1 with you that we can use to prep for it effectively?

Has anyone had a JS1 with anyone other than JS? If so, what was it like?
Also, if people who have had their JS1 could PM me examples of specific questions you were asked, it'd go a long way to easing my anxiety. I sort of know what to expect, but... I have no idea what to expect! It would be great to have examples of what "specific Qs about your application" actually sound like.

I would also greatly appreciate a PM with specific questions, if anyone has some free time to send. Thank you!

I think that as a general rule, we're hearing of very similar styles to last yearluckystar84 wrote:also pm me, please. basically, are they asking questions different from what Lavitz/Elshal shared last cycle?

Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
PSA: A JS1 is an informal interview with a member of the admissions staff (it will be pretty much the same no matter who your interviewer is). They ask questions almost exclusively about your resume so there is no set list of questions that everyone will get. If you won a Nobel prize, they will ask about that. If you have never done anything other than sit on your ass, they will ask why you like sitting on your ass.
This is how you prepare:
1) Have an anecdote/lesson from everything on your resume. This should be easy because nobody knows your resume better than you.
2) Do some research for the obvious "why Harvard" and "why law school" the questions. They probably won't ask this directly but you can use pieces of it throughout the interview.
3) Come up with 2-4 questions to ask. They won't necessarily be able to answer super specific questions but you also shouldn't ask basic things like class size.
4) You want to come across as comfortable and happy to be interviewing with Harvard (pro tip: you are).
5) There is no list of questions, if there were, they would have put it on the application.

This is honestly perfect. Thanks for putting it better than I could Sourrudedude.

Overall I'd say Sourrudedude's post is a really good overview. I had a non-JS JS1 a little while ago and it was a mix of questions specific to my resume and some more general questions that seem to come up naturally in the flow of the conversation. If anyone who hasn't already posted in this thread wants to know the questions I was asked, feel free to PM me!

I would say supplement. As least this is how I feel about my interview.luckystar84 wrote:ok a serious question that I can't really research:
do you guys see a JS1 as a complement to your PS & resume (a piece to the puzzle), or a supplement (building up what's already in your PS & resume)?
Like do you avoid mentioning things you've already said in your PS?
Do you take the opportunity to share anecdotes in a job that your resume mentions but not in depth?
And I second oxie's comment. Some general questions come up in the flow.
I did share couple anecdotes in my research experiences and working experiences but without too much details, though I did mention my take aways.oxie wrote:Overall I'd say Sourrudedude's post is a really good overview. This discussion is probably one of the most helpful on TLS right now. Thank you to the posters talking about their experiences!

Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
I agree with crazyrobin that it's a supplement. There's no point repeating things that you've already told them, but if you have new information that ties into your PS it's probably worth sharing. That said, I've read that they don't like it if it seems like you're coming in with talking points and an agenda.

I just submitted my application today for HLS through LSAC. Anyone know what the approximate time frame is to have the application delivered?

I'm at the point where I'm checking this thread about 5 times a day, just to see if anyone has reported a JS2 yet... yet another reason I can't wait for the Turkey break!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
