They'd have to complete applications with marginal numbers first. I'm near medians (upward) and have been incomplete since I submitted in late November.

They did the same thing last year, but a little later-- in February. They offered the interview to people with high numbers and included the same "we'll make a decision within one week" line.

Apparently! Email says they can do it in person or by Skype starting in late January and that they'll make a decision on my app within a week of the interview, which is nice.

I'm above both 75ths so maybe it's a YP thing?

+1, I submitted 10/15, went complete 10/23, and had been sitting at 11/19 up until today (now it is 1/10)

There is pretty much no way I can swing paying for a trip to Ithaca (even though I'd love to go ) so I guess I'll be opting for the Skype interview

Good to know! Did most of the people interviewed ultimately get accepted, then? And did it make a difference if they went to campus or if they used Skype?

What do you like? What do you not like? If granted a full scholly, would you recommend it over HYS? Over a T10 with $$$? Cornell culture? Employment expectations?

I imagine a lot of the answer is contingent on post-jd goals. Perhaps you could respond on the assumption of an east-coast, big law goal (DC, Boston, NYC)?

I can't remember that well. I'd have to look it up, and I'm going somewhere right now so I don't have time at the moment. I only remember 3 TLSers who got invited (there were definitely others; I just don't remember who they were). I think one didn't even bother doing it. The other two got accepted. I do vaguely remember at least one person doing the interview and not getting in.

I don't even remember if they gave the on-campus option. If they did, I don't remember anyone exercising it. I think everyone did Skype.

I don't know what UVA does. I never applied there and haven't been following the applicants thread.

Obviously I would recommend having a good Why Cornell answer. Probably not much different from any other admissions interview though.

I was just looking through last year's thread for info about the interview and I found this:

Not formal at all, very personal. The questions where not quite what I was expecting. After reading the mass interview thread geared to Chicago and Harvard, I was expecting some typical questions from, for example, a job interview. Things like "what has been your greatest accomplishment?" or "tell me about a time where you effectively handled a personal hurdle" or something similar. There was nothing like that. The questions were direct and to the point. The interviewer picked out two questionable things in my applciation she wanted more information on, and we talked about that for a while. (The "iffy app" section of the interview.) We talked for a bit about why Cornell was a good fit for me and I asked some questions about clinics and the OCI process. (The "YP" section of the interview.)

Total interview time was 27 minutes.

I think that was what bothered me the most. I called right after I got the email and they weren't open? Seriously?
