What'll be an LSAT score to get full-ride at UCLA? Applied late January. Waiting on Feb score. Deciding whether or not to retake for June and apply next cycle.

You might want to wait on that decision until after you know your scorebruin91 wrote:4.0 GPA, what'll be an LSAT score to get full-ride at UCLA? Applied late January. Waiting on Feb score. Deciding whether or not to retake for June and apply next cycle.

Ya, I reckon that was the case. Score really depends on which was experimental for me. Hoping for the best. Good luck to you all on UCLA pursuits!

Do you have a previous score or a practice test range you can guess from? UCLA is pretty generous in my experience, though it is a tad late in the cycle.bruin91 wrote:Ya, I reckon that was the case. For a full ride I figure you'd have to be 170+. Although I'm sure with high 160's you'd be looking at some money at least.shntn wrote:Do you have a previous score or a practice test range you can guess from? Well put it out of your mind until your score comes back. Just submit your apps and see what happens come score release day.bruin91 wrote:No previous score. Yea plenty of apartments walking distance....however, it's quiet pricey. They have a whole complex dedicated to graduate program students.

The west side of campus, between Veteran Ave. and Gayley Ave., is pretty much filled with apartment complexes where students live (mostly undergrads). I think there are a few apartment complexes on the east side of campus, but that area is mostly non-student homeowners.uconjak wrote:Going to visit UCLA in a couple weeks, ANy apt. complexes and where a person should live if you are attending school there?

The law school's on the east end of campus, and there's some apartment housing right next to that (although you'll need to scope it out. It's limited and largely houses for families,etc.). The sorority houses are right there, although if you go down the hill a bit (5-10 minute walk) you'll hit a Ralph's, a Trader Joe's a block or two farther and a ton more apartments on Tiverton Ave.uconjak wrote:would like to be close, don't want to drive very much if possible. The actual graduate student housing provided by the school, as well as the bulk of nearby apartments will be past the west end of campus. This isn't bad, it's just not as close - I'd estimate a 20-25 minute walk to the law school. The grad student apartments are fine. If you go to a privately owned complex elsewhere, scope it out beforehand. Block off some time to ask around and drop by some different places. There's plenty of great ones and a couple with cockroaches, poor landlords, etc. just like any other area.
The one thing you'd have going for you is that while a lot of housing spots are filling up even now for the private apartments, most of these are undergrad students looking for 2-bed 2-baths. You have a bit more leeway in finding living space if you're searching outside those parameters.

Re: UCLA c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
The stretch of Santa Monica Blvd. between Sawtelle and Barrington is a great place to live while attending. I lived there during undergrad and work close by now. There are Movie theatres, video stores, tons of restaurants and bakeries, markets, thrift stores, bars close by, etc... Several of the blue bus lines (is it still a quarter for students?) come by every 10 minutes or so and terminate one staircase from the law school about 15 minutes later. It's a really easy neighborhood to live in with no car and when you feel like getting out, you hop on those same blue buses in the other direction and you're in Venice in no time.
Can't speak to current prices, but in 2004 after a little searching I found a massive 2 bedroom with parking for $1400/month.

Does anyone have experience commuting from Santa Monica via blue bus? How is it? I have never been to the area trying to explore all my options.

Blue Bus is easy and clean compared to the LA metro buses. They come more frequently and are cheap. Only problem is that Wilshire and Santa Monica Blvd. can get really jammed up around the 405, which is one benefit to living in the area I mentioned above. You can easily just walk to the next stop past the freeway.
But anywhere east of campus on Wilshire or Sunset is also a pretty easy commute. I lived in Koreatown (close to Downtown) for my last year and the rapid bus usually got me to school in 30 or 40 minutes. There are tons of bus options from South of campus too.

Totally doable especially if you live close to Wilshire or Santa Monica Blvd. Might take about half an hour during peak times of the day though, plus Santa Monica is quite expensive.Charlie.Home wrote:Does anyone have experience commuting from Santa Monica via blue bus? Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered in the thread somewhere, but if I didn't hear about scholarships during the acceptance call when do they usually arrive? And is it always via snail mail? Thanks.

Re: UCLA c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Just got a $75,000 scholarship. No scholarship was given with my acceptance, so I sent them a scanned copy of my Texas offer ($45k + residency) and mentioned my Emory offer ($105k) as well. Received a first response asking if I had filled out Need Access within 3 hours of sending the email, and received the scholarship offer within 6 hours.
169/3.9
Hope that helps those waiting/wondering if they should ask.

Re: UCLA c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
It seems like some current UCLA law students are posting in this thread so I figured I'd throw this question out there. If it's not appropriate for this thread, flame or ignore away.
Do you think that someone interested in working in a big law firm post-graduation should go to UCLA? According to the numbers I've looked at (example: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub ... Bd3c&gid=7) approximately 40% of UCLA law grads either work in law firms with at least 100 attorneys or have federal clerkships. This number feels low to me and makes me uncomfortable. Do you feel that it accurately reflects a UCLA student's chances at getting a big law job? Is there relatively less interest among UCLA students in big law jobs? Should I not even be looking at these numbers? Help me.
I have the $25K/year scholarship to UCLA but it doesn't matter to me how much the school costs if prospects for my desired employment are poor.

Visited today.
Love the people.
Love the building.
Even loved the ConLaw class I sat in on.
And now I'm even more sad to be on the waitlist.
