Re: U. of Florida 2010-2011 Applicants!!
Because of my age, 38 by the time I start school, I am not sure how I feel about living in a college town such as Gainesville. I will be interested to see if Miami offers me any money. I will definitely be visiting any and all schools I get into before I make a decision. Stetson and miami both interest me because of the idea of not having to relocate again after school. I have moved too many times and would like to attend school in the area where I will hopefully find gainful employment!

I know the feeling. I graduated from college in 1995 - but I'm 51! LSAT 163, GPA 3.92. I'm in at UF, FSU and Stetson, but still waiting to hear from GW (ED), BU, UT, and UVA. Realistically, I'm leaning toward UF or FSU since I love FL and would want to work here after law school. Stetson's just an hour away, but my goal at my age is to complete law school at a good school with as little debt as possible - maybe even no debt. Since UF has offered me an $18,000 scholarship ($6000/yr if 3.2 maintained), that seems do-able. But, living in Gainesville....hmmm.swflgirl wrote:Because of my age, 38 by the time I start school, I am not sure how I feel about living in a college town such as Gainesville. Anyone's status change today? Today is pretty much our last hope of hearing anything before the New Year. *sigh* Come on UF, give us a nice Christmas present!

File reviewed, no decision reached
Current Status Date: 12/3/2010
Guess that means I'm a big WaitList

No, not necessarily a waitlist:
Also, there are many people with numbers above their medians in the same boat. I wouldn't worry.eve2490 wrote:From the Admissions Office (e-mail):
Decision pending is the same as "no decision reached'. Some applicants were confused by the status "decision pending", and we decided to change the wording slightly. Decisions are being made between now and the end of April, and candidates will hear anytime between now and April. So far, a final decision has not yet been reached on your file. It is a comparative, ongoing review process, so many files are held for additional review as others are completed, which is very normal in our process.

Ya, I was a 1st round last year with the same #s (minus grad school transcripts) but this year I'm in the same boat with you all on the "no decision reached" status. So they've clearly seen an increase in their medians and are comparing apps that would normally be auto admits to this year's batch. I find their admissions team & process infuriating in general.

I'm in the same boat. FL resident above both 75% and still haven't even got a status checker! Maybe the holidays are slowing them down. If I dont get anything early next week I'm just going to call the admissions office and make sure they have everything they need.Sandro777 wrote:does anyone know if UF's admissions offices are open this week? Scratch that just went to the status check and was able to log on. Not sure how I don't remember getting the email or setting up my new password but either way I am "initial review by committee"

The adcomm should be in a great mood today since Gators won. I am expecting good things for us this week although non-gator fans should expect to hear from UF no earlier than April

Status checker changed to: Letter issued (5-10 days for receipt)! I seriously doubt it should take 5 days for a letter to get from Gainesville to Tallahassee (2 hour drive for those out-of-state).

Re: U. of Florida 2010-2011 Applicants!!
I saw a few posts about this awhile back, but I have a question about the academic statement - does anyone want to send me theirs so I can see how I should be writing? I have a lot of literary journal internship experience at my university, as well as small publications here and there - would that be something they would like to hear about?
Also, for the diversity statement, I'm a white female but I had a traumatic experience my sophomore year that led to my desire to be a lawyer. I wrote about this in my personal statement for other schools, so would this be the right place for it, or should I refrain from submitting a diversity statement?
Thanks for all the help and sorry for all the questions!!

Can anybody speak to the mobility of a degree from UF? I would really like to work in Atlanta, but tuition at UF may be too low to turn down. Anybody know how easy or difficult it will be to find legal employment in atlanta with a UF degree?

<-----I've applied to Florida. I did not make full use of the 4 pages (roughly 3 1/4). My personal statement was not about diversity. Anything else you want to discuss?
FWIW, I lived in Gainesville for 5 years and have good info on where to live, eat, drink, purchase crack (just kidding)...so feel free to ask!

Re: U. of Florida 2010-2011 Applicants!!
I have heard it places well here in the deep south..and I would not think it travels much further north than that (or west than Louisiana)....but I have no statistical data (that someone else here might be able to provide you) supporting or refuting those claims.
UF does have the largest and richest alllumni base in the country which may open a door or two for you elsewhere in the country.
"The alumni can be found in every state and in more than 100 foreign countries. The Alumni Association is responsible for a network of nearly 100 Gator Clubs in Florida, across the U.S. and internationally. These clubs are composed of alumni and friends who represent UF in their communities. They hold a wide variety of programs and events in support of the university. The Alumni Association is also actively involved with the recruitment of superior students to attend the University and with financial assistance programs in the form of scholarships sponsored by the Gator Clubs. In addition, this organization hosts outreach programs that bring faculty and administrators on the road to carry the University's message to alumni and friends.[1] Overall this is one of the largest Alumni Associations within the United States." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University ... ssociation
Not a great source (coming from a history major) but you will get a feel from this article.
