I doubt that they are going to retract their current offer simply because you asked for more money. However, I would only do it if your LSAT is 169+ and are not too much of a splitter. They seem to be grabbing plenty of people below that with their 120k offer. They clearly want their medians to improve, so they may do it if your LSAT is in that range.pcvmeli wrote:Is asking to up the 120,000 to a full scholarship a bad idea?

Why not try it? Just make sure you write up something good and are very polite and I don't think it will be an issue. At worst they decline you, I wouldn't think much else would happen if you were polite and had adequate reason to ask for it.stlisforlovers wrote:I was sort of considering doing that as well.pcvmeli wrote:Is asking to up the 120,000 to a full scholarship a bad idea?but then I decided it would be pretty douchey.

Re: IU Bloomington Class of 2014
But what is an adequate reason? I think for the 120k people it's the biggest scholarship most of us will get at a T30 school... How do you negotiate with no "better" offers?
But yeah, I guess the worse thing they can do is say no

Maybe try something along the lines of "If you bump it up a few thousand more to full tuition, I will sign on the dotted line today."
for IU's 120k this is a legit issue - Who knows how much tuition will go up in the coming years.

I am considering doing it as well. I do think it might be a little douchey but I figured this is an admissions game. They are trying to get the best stats for their class to improve their ranking and we are trying to get the best offer to continue our education.stlisforlovers wrote:I was sort of considering doing that as well.pcvmeli wrote:Is asking to up the 120,000 to a full scholarship a bad idea?but then I decided it would be pretty douchey.

Don't most negotiations happen via email? They seem to be ignoring my emails, so maybe I can do a realllly awkward phone call.
Even if tution went up ASTRONOMICALLY, IU-B would still be my (and I think most 120kers) cheapest options.

I don't think it's douchey. It's like negotiating for higher comp at a new job. You just need to be negotiating from a strong point. I definitely won't be. If you have as good or better offer from a peer school, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for some more cash, but because Indiana has made it rain so heavily, I doubt this will be the case for many people.beidoun wrote:I am considering doing it as well. Wow. it's like all of you read my mind, I was just coming to ask about the scholarship negotiations today.
Anyway, who should I send an email to? Should I do iulawfa@indiana.edu or another email address?

Yea so I was thinking about asking for a car, I'll let you all know how the negotiations go. I mean UMN is ranked higher than them but it's a large city with tons of public transportation, but I see them as peers. I shall be given a car. Or UF is warmer during the entire year, and I won't get cold walking around there, so maybe IU will throw in a hoody.

Re: IU Bloomington Class of 2014
Hey guys
I have a quick questions.
I was accepted to Illinois in January with 25k a year. I am still waiting for IU, I went complete on Jan 24th.
Do you think I could/should write a letter explaining that I got into Illinois with money but I would like to go to Indiana in the hopes that Indiana accepts me and gives me money?

If you were accepted to U of I with $$, you surely will get in IUB with $$$. I was waitlisted at U of I and I got 120k at IUB.
Just be patient, young grasshopper.

Yeah, its probably not a great idea to try to use a competing offer to negotiate admission but if you are accepted w/o scholarships, then you can use illinois to negotiate. though if that is the case, I would recommend taking Illinois.bigben5289 wrote:Hey guys

Greetings! This is my first post, be gentle...
I was curious if people who have been getting accepted were notified via e-mail first. Reading through some of the IU threads, it seems like a lot of folks are just getting the packet through the regular mail? Bloomington doesn't have a status checker and it's driving me crazy.

No email. Acceptance packet just showed up in a big flat rate priority mail envelope one day after work. Scholarship info is right there on your acceptance letter.moonpieface wrote:Greetings! This is my first post, be gentle...

Holy hell, give me a decision already. The deposit deadlines are approaching, and I applied in November. If they took this long to waitlist or deny, I am going to be pissed off. There is no reason for it. Baylor and IU are in the running for slowest schools alive unless you are an auto-admit.

You should call. That's how I found out I was WL'd yesterday, and she was very friendly about it. I applied in November too, so hopefully you had better luck than me. But, like I said they told me their class still isn't full, so I'm assuming they're waiting out the $120k's.jaydizzle wrote:Holy hell, give me a decision already. Im only taking 3 classes this semester: health, literature, and info systems, and they are all total snoozers. I am ready to just break out of here and get off to law school. I just need to get my diploma and be done with this undergrad BSRooksWS6 wrote:Anybody else who is currently in undergrad having trouble staying focused??
