If you really want to go so bad then perhaps sit on your posts for an extra ten seconds before you hit submit. You have absolutely 0 anonymity and basically just negated any LOCIs you sent by claiming the only reason you want to go is because your husband likes Austin.Navyhornguy wrote:For someone to openly admit that they never bothered to respond to the waitlist email, brag on here about getting admitted, and then ask about scholarships is insulting to those of us really hoping to get in. In the on-topics, you probably won't find one. Because supposedly smart people are actually pretty dumb when you break it down. Also, I don't want to hear anything about negativity, Mr. "I couldn't handle the Duke application process so I emailed them to ask 'what gives' because I deserve better than the rest of the applicants"...Literally just move to Austin with your husband this fall and retake in June and reapply next cycle. You have GI bill and a 4.0. A 164 and your bitchy attitude is such a waste.Navyhornguy wrote:I'm trying to remember any post you've ever put up that wasn't laced with negativity and arrogant snark. I've exceeded my dreams at this point, because I sat out a cycle and retook the LSAT. You may not have to retake, because you're on the WL and might get off (so dunno why you're bitching about other admits), but if your attitude comes through your emails to UTexas in the same way it does on here, I wouldn't expect an admit this cycle. I get your point about the person asking about scholly info. I'd respond a similar way. But you should seriously reconsider how you address things, especially since it's not that hard to figure out who you are.Navyhornguy wrote: I hope you achieve all of your law school dreams. Noted, and you're probably right. I'm sure I wasn't the only person that was rubbed the wrong way by how all that went down this morning, but I was too emotional and overreacted. I need to work on that.lymenheimer wrote:I've exceeded my dreams at this point, because I sat out a cycle and retook the LSAT. The LSAT/applying to law school is the first of many steps where you have to wait a long time for stuff and watch people around you have wildly more success than you. Just wait for your first set of grades, your second set of grades, OCI screeners, callbacks, offers, etc. Begrudging people their success is NAGL and people will remember classmates who were catty, bitter, etc., possibly forever (we always get reminded in law school that the legal world is a small place and your reputation follows you everywhere, and from what little I've seen so far that really does seem to be the case)

Didn't apply to UT but grew up in Austin. It's unfortunately getting more common. Shoal Creek (right near UT, though considerably downhill) floods ALL THE TIME.doobleykah wrote:Yepmornincounselor wrote:. . .

Flooding with SXSW-goers. Otherwise you're thinking of Louisiana.mornincounselor wrote:. . .

And no, Austin flooding is not very common. It has happened a couple times in the last 2 years. Otherwise it has happened maybe 5 times in the 20 years I've lived here.

Maybe TLS isn't representational but I don't see how so few in state people have gotten in.

Yes and no. There are two major creeks in Austin (Shoal & Waller), and when the city gets heavy rain, especially for several days in a row, both tend to overfill in parts -- however, it looks nothing like the kind of flooding that you might see more often in the Houston or NOLA areas. Waller Creek does run straight through campus, but in my experience, this isn't one of the areas that floods as easily as others. Assuming your backyard doesn't back up to a creek, flooding shouldn't mess with your life much, if ever.mornincounselor wrote:. . .

If you're considering moving to Austin, I'd recommend looking up the city's low water crossing site to get a better sense of areas that are more impacted by flooding.
EDIT: also, Austin is not flooding at all right now. Maybe in the Hill Country, but not in the city.

I know two friends, both instate, who have gotten in this cycle. Neither use TLS/or post anything.
The weather in Texas is unpredictable. It even snows/flurries occasionally.

It normally happens once or twice a year in the spring. But normally the campus area and student neighborhoods don't flood - it's normally much further south.mornincounselor wrote:. . .

I think it's just unrepresentative. Most people on here aim for T-14s + some top regionals, but a lot of people I know are interested only in Texas schools so it's just a matter of applying to UT, SMU, UH, etc. and waiting. There's not as much discussion needed because we're in-state anyway and don't have as much to discuss.PatriotP74 wrote:Maybe TLS isn't representational but I don't see how so few in state people have gotten in.

Re: University of Texas c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
This. I rented a house during my three years of law school that backed up to a drainage ditch. When the city would flood, we'd get about an inch of standing water in our backyard. That's about it though. (I also lived pretty far from campus.)turetto wrote:Yes and no. Pretty frustrating that they're letting people in off the waitlist already and I'm still waiting for my initial decision

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
