Sebastian's "Egalitarian" thread was before Jett's post. But I'm guessing he was anticipating us not really being thrilled with him posting in here again.texasellewoods wrote:Well apparently he took a bit of offense to your comment so he posted thisjettison63 wrote:
Look kid, you're not a lady. You said you were before and then we found out you were actually a dude. And you're STILL posting in here.
I don't care if you want to discuss Jessica Jones. That's what the compendium is for. But your insistence on posting in the ladies thread when you are a dude is disrespectful.

Bye bye lil sebastian....

Oh! Legal shows! I forgot to mention Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, about an over-achieving Big Law attorney who ditches her meds and moves to California after a chance encounter with her old summer camp boyfriend.schocolate wrote:Belated suggestions: Favorite legal(ish) TV show? Have you seen it/do you like it? When I first watched the preview for the show, I honestly expected it to be a disaster. But she's since won a Golden Globe and gotten a ton of critical acclaim, so I was wondering if it was actually any good.CJRpnw wrote:Oh! Legal shows! I love it, but I'm a big musical geek so it wasn't a tough sell. It has a strong perspective, and it's fairly compassionate about the fact that all its characters are trainwrecks who are trying their hardest to be decent. Also, Rachel Bloom is a total babe.jtg21 wrote:Have you seen it/do you like it? When I first watched the preview for the show, I honestly expected it to be a disaster. Musically, I'd call it a sibling to Flight of the Conchords -- this (semi-NSFW) song should probably give you a good idea of what to expect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky-BYK-f154

I also love Diana Wynne Jones, especially Howl's Moving Castle which is one of my favorite books of all time.

Oh, To Kill A Mockingbird is a good legal, female writer/protagonist, fiction option, though perhaps low hanging fruit.

Can we pretty please do a book club?
Let me offer some quick suggestions.
Nonfiction: I am about to read Sisters In-Law. It is about RBG and SDO.
Fiction: We Are Water by Wally Lamb is on my night stand.
YA: Totally up for re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird.
I am not set on anything and open to all suggestions. It would be fun reading and discussing with you fabulous ladies.

Alright, I've been lurking on this thread forever but once you start talking book clubs, I'm in. I second Sisters in Law, I've got it on my coffee table ready to crack open as we speak.schocolate wrote:Yes yes yes yes please.OLitch wrote:Can we pretty please do a book club?

Notorious RBG is also a super fun book about the queen herself! More of the fun pics/anecdotes/memes than intense legal analysis, but learning about her life outside the court was really interesting! Highly recommend it in a coffee-table book category.schocolate wrote:Yes yes yes yes please.OLitch wrote:Can we pretty please do a book club?

I'll be there! (Even though I'm not a veteran TLSer.) But I just booked my flight there and am beyond excited.schocolate wrote:On that note, if you're at the New York ASWs March 2-4, I'd love to meet you guys!

I always miss the action here during the day when I'm at work! Count me in for any kind of book club activity, too. Flights booked for the Columbia/NYU ASWs as well, a meetup sounds really fun! I will likely be getting there on Sunday or Monday of that week after being in DC the week prior.

As far as books go, I have a ton of hard copy and Nook on the "to read" list. Things get put on hold for the LSAT because...LSAT.
However, make sure to read a Suze Orman or David Bach book. "Smart Women Finish Rich", or other "Finish Rich" books in his series.
Never know when you'll need to dip in an emergency fund for that special purse! *wink, wink*

This is late, but I would bring a pair of waterproof boots just in case! You never know what can happen! But you should be fine with boots and socks, but don't forget scarves/gloves/hat/etc.zarzamora wrote:I grew up in Chicago and while late February is usually pretty cold, snow boots aren't really necessary. The city does get some snow, but it's usually not a ton and all of the streets/sidewalks should be plowed so you shouldn't have to walk in the snow at all. And like you mentioned, this year has been pretty mild so there might not be any snow at all. The cold can really be bitter though, so dress in layers and bring a warm coat and you'll be fine!lebongenre wrote:Hey all! I know the cold weather dressing question came up a couple pages back, but does anyone have any insights into what to expect weather-wise in Chicago at the end of Feb?
I've heard it's been a "mild winter" and the forecast I'm seeing predicts temps in 20-30s. My main question is whether snow boots with good traction are a must or if I can get away with boots marketed as "waterproof" and wool socks

So, as we all go into ASWs/talking to current students, etc:
What do you think one should look for to tell if a school/institution is a 'supportive' place for women? Hallllp. Is there anything to look for?!
Some obvious ones, but I'm so curious to hear other things: gender-oriented coursework and clinics, a strong women's law students org, female professors including some in 1L courses???

I am 100% looking for some gender-oriented courses. I'm also interested in gender-related journals, though according to these threads anything that isn't Law Review doesn't matter.... merp.slippin_jimmy wrote:So, as we all go into ASWs/talking to current students, etc:
