So Darrows are like the one thing about Michigan I know nothing about. Are invitations mostly numbers based? Is there a chance my shining personality could outshine my slightly below medians numbers and score me an invite? (A girl can dream can't she? )

I'm above both 75ths, well above LSAT. OOS, no connection to Michigan - never have even visited (but am excited!!).

No, they also give out "Dean's Scholarships," but Darrows are usually more substantial.

Yield protection. Schools waitlist or reject people with numbers much higher than their (the school's) medians because they don't believe those people are actually likely to attend (since they could get into higher ranked schools, maybe with $$). They do this to keep their acceptance rate down, which helps them in rankings systems.

I don't know if any school has ever actually admitted to doing this, but it's accepted as true here on TLS.

Yeah, pretty sure you have to be accepted first and then invite comes afterwards. There were lots of available spots (of course not all will be used but still) so I imagine they'll be sending out more waves soon.
