Dying to hear back! I think they're back in business starting tomorrow, but hoping for a decision by the end of the week seems far-fetched

I can't even agonize over my NU status checker right now, since I haven't done my interview yet.

Question for those that have interviewed on-campus-- who from the committee did you interview with and was it as intense as some have described?

On campus interviews can be done by one of several members of the admissions staff or by current students, so the feel of the interview will likely be different depending on who you get.BentleyLittle wrote:Question for those that have interviewed on-campus-- who from the committee did you interview with and was it as intense as some have described?

Mine was pretty intense compared to the other alumni interviews ive had as well as Georgetown Group interview. Very serious tone.BentleyLittle wrote:Question for those that have interviewed on-campus-- who from the committee did you interview with and was it as intense as some have described?

Mine was off campus, at a nearby downtown area. Very comfortable/congenial. Although it was the most "serious" interview I had, the others were so relaxed, I'd hesitate to call them "interviews" by the traditional definition. Even though my guy is a partner with a litany of past accomplishments (thanks Google!), he seemed like he was genuinely interested in not only getting his answers, but also helping me out.

I was probably one of the people who already said it was intense, and I didn't think my interview went well.BentleyLittle wrote:Question for those that have interviewed on-campus-- who from the committee did you interview with and was it as intense as some have described?
I would recommend having a bunch of stories that you've already prepared. This is probably obvious interview preparation procedure, but I think people might neglect it. Particularly people who have plenty of good answers to interview-type questions.
I've been workign for a while and I thought I would have no problem answering any questions about "projects" or "working in groups," etc. But when the interviewer asked me a question that was tailor made for the response I had just given to a previous question, I was thrown off. And since I didn't have a list of stuff prepared, I fumbled a bit.
It's surprising how troubling it can be if someone asks you something like "what's the longest or most substantial document you've ever written?", right after you talked about your 100 page thesis for two minutes. Being able to answer that second question with "Well, probably my thesis, but let me tell you about another brief that I wrote," is way bettern than saying "Ummm... yeah, probably the thesis again."
And having written that, I guess it clears up the real reason I thought the interview was kind of intense. The interviewer seemed to ask me her entire list of questions, regardless of what I had answered previously. If she had asked who my favorite celebrity was and I had answered Beyonce, she still would have asked me who my favorite musician was (and probably without any acknowledgement of my Beyonce answer).

Just applied! terrified now. My stats are below 25th percentile (3.2 gpa and 161 lsat), but everything else is really good. strong work experience and PS and letters of recco. Ugh. the waiting game begins.

Re: Northwestern Law c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 cycle)
Mine was on-campus! It was conducted by an admissions officer/staff member. I wouldn't say mine was intense, but it wasn't casual. She certainly had a list of questions and went down them, but I could tell that she was doing her best to make it as comfortable as possible. If I were to give any advice it would be to relate answers back to previous ones if you repeat yourself, try not to be long winded (but still have ample information), keep focus on the actual questions being asked of you, and have at least two questions that you want to ask of the interviewer. Oh and let your personality shine through! The whole point is to get to know you on a more personal level so show them what is different about you and try to show aspects of yourself that your application doesn't state directly.BentleyLittle wrote:Question for those that have interviewed on-campus-- who from the committee did you interview with and was it as intense as some have described?
