Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle) Forum

Checking in pretty late with a question on Penn's admissions process. I've applied to their PhD program for philosophy, and I decided last minute to throw out the Hail Mary and apply JD/PhD.

If I don't apply ED, have I totally screwed myself by waiting this long? Has there been any movement for RD applicants?

If you're numbers are accurate, and you don't have any super softs, I don't think you are competitive at Penn even with an ED. Maybe applying to the joint program helps, but I don't know. I hate to be a downer, but according to myLSN.info nobody with your numbers has gotten into Penn in a while. But best of luck.

My thoughts as well. I hadn't even considered applying to Penn until submitting my PhD app. Best case scenario: get accepted to the PhD program, wait listed at the law school. Then there would always be retaking the LSAT during my first two years in the PhD program.

Everyone here says retake. In all seriousness, if you think you can hit 170+, you should retake. A 3.4 170+ will be competitive at Penn.

Same UR2 date and no, doesn't look like we'll hear anything this week. I'm the YP dead zone where they generally waitlist, so I sent a letter updating them on my life / reaffirming my interest.

I couldn't find an "In at Penn" forum, so I'm posting here. I was accepted on Dec. 14 and received a packet today, which basically has information about most of the faculty. Anyway, my acceptance letter said there's a seat deposit due early March, which I think is quite early. Every other school I've been accepted to doesn't have a seat deposit until mid-to-late April. It's going to be hard to make a decision without having received financial aid info from other schools--or without some people having heard back at all from some schools (i.e. Yale).

Interesting. I just checked my status checker. It too said May 1, but I'm looking at the letter right in front of me. It definitely says March 1. Probably some administrative error since March 1 is a Friday. May 1 sounds much more likely.

UCR2 today. First UCR1 was on 11/20. However, Penn has an ED round 2 coming up, so, RD applicants may wait longer than we might like.
