Well I just got the email from financial aid, and I got the 2 thousand dollar grant for the 1st year so that's kind of a cool way to start off the day.

http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 2&t=179468 <--Check here for info on financial aid. We've already discussed this in the other thread, and I think we've cleared everything up.
They haven't release a spread sheet for next year, as far as I can tell. The only one I ever find on their webpage is for last year: http://law.uh.edu/financialaid/budgeting.asp

Heres the graph on their website from 2011-2012. (LinkRemoved)nimchow12 wrote:Does someone have the excel for the budget for next year 2012-2013? I need to see what I can do, it seems that my finaid barely even covers tution for next year, I'm a bit confused.

Then this is what it has for the COA 2012-2013 for FT when you log in to myUH...
Fall 2012
Books and Supplies 1,450.00
Miscellaneous Personal Expense 1,350.00
Room & Board 5,100.00
Transportation 1,400.00
Tuition and fees 15,459.00
Term Total 24,759.00
Spring 2013
Books and Supplies 1,450.00
Miscellaneous Personal Expense 1,350.00
Room & Board 5,100.00
Transportation 1,400.00
Tuition and fees 15,459.00
Term Total 24,759.00
Total Cost of Attendance 49,518.00
Also, they haven't posted any scholarships yet, and your direct PLUS loan is not listed yet because you need to apply for a credit check for that first. That loan will probably make up the bulk of your COA, so it is probably what you are missing and why you are confused.
EDIT: Scooped

Re: University of Houston c/o 2015 (2011-2012 cycle)
That's right! I forgot!
Here are my numbers then, hopefully that will help!
Books and Supplies - 1,100.00
Miscellaneous Personal Expense - 1,015.00
Room & Board - 5,100.00
Transportation - 1,050.00
Tuition and fees - 10,809.00
Semester Total - 19,074.00
If you look at your package on MyUH, click Financial Aid Summary, then click the number next to Estimated Financial Aid Budget, you'll get your own personalized break down. Mine would be for a student who lives off campus not with parents, which I disclosed on my FAFSA.

Anyone know what median is at UH. My scholarship has a 2.9 GPA stipulation; I'm wondering if that is reasonable.

I thought our Tuition and fees were only 29,000ish for the first year. I wonder what happened...mtyler19 wrote:Heres the graph on their website from 2011-2012. I was thinking just this! Maybe they weren't including all the fees before or something, or atleast they can use that as an excuse.zanzbar wrote:I thought our Tuition and fees were only 29,000ish for the first year. If so that's pretty damn lame. Also, only 10,200 for room and board that's pretty rough. I feel pretty bad for you guys because that's not near enough just to make 12 months of rent in a halfway decent place in Houston from what I have seen without taking on a couple of roomies.mtyler19 wrote:I was thinking just this! Realistically the cost of living will be 30k a year - and htown is cheap! You can shave off a couple grand if you live like a church mouse. I did a lot of research on total cost of law school and it's all BS - it's gonna cost you somewhere between 200k and 250k in total. Good luck and good night.

Yep running the REAL numbers takes a lot of the luster out of enrolling in law school. I really wanted SMU but i couldn't find any real justification for more then doubling my debt. anyone know how bad the drive is from Friendswood to campus is. my parents are about to make an offer on a house in that area and I don't want to be surprised on how much its going to suck driving it everyday.theatetus wrote:Realistically the cost of living will be 30k a year - and htown is cheap! You are looking at a 35-45 minute drive depending on I45 traffic.
I found a nice 2bdrm in Montrose for $975 a month that I will split with my S/O. Score.

Wow I'm super jealous. I'm about to go crazy! How'd you find it? If you don't mind me asking lol. I've been looking for a 2br around that $ or lower and absolutely can't find anything closer than 30 minutes.Titleist wrote:You are looking at a 35-45 minute drive depending on I45 traffic.

Word up, I'm counting the hours til the 25th when STCL 50% tuition is due. Could create a sticky financial situation, but fortunately not an intractable one: http://www.stcl.edu/fao/SouthTexasColle ... olicy.htmljduh2015 wrote:Not yet but hopefully soon! The number that hurts there is the 75% refund the second week of class, which is the first week of UH classes. I have no idea if you're into STCL btw, just throwing stuff out there.

Bartleby, I'm just curious, why do you not like 230 W. Alabama. I pulled up their website and their apartments look really nice.

Re: University of Houston c/o 2015 (2011-2012 cycle)
It is a shit storm, my friend. $2/sq. ft. Everything is concrete so noise echos like crazy. If you get stuck with a loud neighbor above you, or next to you, you'll hear every noise they make. Pet on your floor? E'ryone will hear it bark. If you get trapped into the "cheaper" apartments that face the highway, be prepared for noise all day. The air conditioning system has some central thing (I don't know what the term) but if my neighbor upstairs smokes, I can smell it. If she/he cooks, I can sometimes smell it.Titleist wrote:Bartleby, I'm just curious, why do you not like 230 W. Alabama. I pulled up their website and their apartments look really nice.
I just fucking hate that place.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
