Re: Emory 2011
jakeL, of your last 4 emory related posts, it looks to me like 3 of them have had to do with emory's rank (specifically, your prediction that its ranking will suffer).
two things. one, let's let emory worry about that. two, where emory is on the rankings scale, it doesn't much matter whether a school is ranked 20th or 30th. everyone knows this. none of the major firms here in atlanta and i'm assuming elsewhere will care one bit. if it were the case that firms care, then you would have expected emory's reputation to spike two years ago when the school was ranked 20th. i'd say emory's reputation continued to accrete outside its home market, and inside its home market emory is still a very strong name. just relax.
75k may be a cap, it may not be. but i'm seeing quite a few people with 75k offers. i'm not ready to craft a narrative yet, but it at least could be a more equitable distribution of the cash. if that's the approach, and if emory gets quite a few of these above-median people, then i'd say statistics won't adversely affect emory's ranking.

Accepted, 45k scholarship. Letter was probably in my mailbox on Thursday or Friday but I didn't check until last night.
For everyone wondering, it was sent to my CURRENT address, not permanent.

Similar numbers to mine. I think this may be an off year for Emory in terms of trying to raise their LSAT median from 166 to 167. They do not seem to be pushing as hard for that sort of bump up like WashU is doing. It looks like I will have a tough decision to make with Emory.

I think you are confusing me with someone else. I'm relaxed though, so thanks! Keep on stalking!ze2151 wrote:jakeL, of your last 4 emory related posts, it looks to me like 3 of them have had to do with emory's rank (specifically, your prediction that its ranking will suffer).

Just to prove you are full of shit....
My last 4 posts
The one on this page about ranking "Yea that's pretty weak if true. I wonder if the rankings take a big blow as a result."
"Am I missing something here? Seems like the guy was just making an observation, maybe prematurely, but everybody on here whines about scholarship money unless they're the lucky few whose parents are bankrolling the thing..."
"If true, I think it's going to blow up in their faces. They can't wait this long, not throw a lot of cash, and expect the strongest applicants to come..." pg 33
"Well that sucks. Guess I'll hear from my mom in about 2 weeks when it gets overseas." pg 31

Re: Emory 2011
My letter was sent to my permanent address...I'm really confused because it seems to be like half and half. I'm just glad I read this forum because every other school has sent mail to my temporary school address, and it wouldn't have even occurred to me to ask my mom to look for it in the mail at home. I think she pretty much just throws all my mail in a pile because I've gotten a bunch of mail from random law schools, so she probably wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't told her to look for it.

Re: Emory 2011
now you really do need to relax. but you're right. only 1/2 of your posts had to do w/ emory dropping in rankings or receiving fewer/weaker apps (which is a thinly veiled hint that a rankings hit is in the offing).
i don't want to be rude, but negativity for its own sake isn't productive. if there are people who aren't happy with the aid packages emory offered, that's one thing. and that will be emory's cross to bear.
sorry for calling you out. shouldn't have done it.

Meh, just the fact that TT alternates between excitement/happiness and frustration/bickering... At least it's entertaining!HelltotheNo wrote:? Did I miss some sort of internet code or something?krad wrote:Oh, my little bipolar Emory thread, how I love thee <3

Frustration!!!
Nothing in the mail these last few days.
Applied first half of November!
(LSAT above median.)
How much longer do I have to be patient?

Did you know that all of ze2151's last 2 posts on the Emory 2011 thread have had to do with Emory's rankings?

See how easy that is?

Re: Emory 2011
haha, all right
i don't know how well it reflects on Emory for its current students to bicker w/ posters here, so let's just move on..
anyway, i haven't received anything from emory yet (perm in CO; temp in midwest). i've got the magic LSAT and GPA >75th, so i'm hoping for some good news soon...?

i don't think that's quite the same thing (when you get to law school you'll get very good at "distinguishing" between fact patterns; but shoe-horning your facts into law from previous cases is also a valuable skill that you seem to possess naturally. so you will do well, honestly). but i apologized. seems you're wound a little tight, i should have just encouraged you to remain calm. again, i'm sorry.

Looks like 75 k is a cap except for Woodruff finalists

From actual students with whom I met last week, total cost of attendance is about $70 k a year.

The web site itself cites: "Estimated costs for one year: $68,074."
