Got my loans-only financial aid "award" letter today. Time to withdraw - hope it opens up a spot for someone on here!

Visiting Columbia today and of course it's supposed to rain all day. NYU tomorrow gets the good weather.
My friend took me to a nice little restaurant last night to get some drinks. The actors/actresses playing Hagrid, Ginny Weasley, Tonks, and Lupin from the Harry Potter movies sat down at a table behind us. Apparently they were there for the opening of a Harry Potter exhibition just a block down the street. It was surreal. Though it would have been much better if Emma Watson showed up

Called on the 30th and they said I "should be hearing very soon..." After no email on that day or the next, I assumed I'd receive a rejection letter over the weekend. Nothing yet, but maybe I'll get it today.law_monkey wrote:Have you called them about that yet with the exact wording on their website? Cuz that's just ridiculous, especially when they say you should've heard.texaskk wrote:I was thinking more along the lines of pre-January submits, since we were supposed to've received a decision by the end of March, but ya January sucks tooryokoyuy wrote:Still forgottentexaskk wrote:my rejection letter still hasn't arrived... any other forgottens still out there?![]()
January submit/complete
edit: Didn't come today. The wait goes on.

Re: Columbia 2011!
email with an attachment. It also said that this was the largest applicant pool etc., etc., -- clearly they haven't updated their forms from last year. UR sometime in October or November, hold in January maybe?amkid100 wrote:sry to hear that --- how did you hear? when did you go UR?nadopretz wrote:"Reserved" today after being on hold. :/ or :p can't decide which emoticon describes my feelings better

What does it mean to be put on First Reserve? Does this mean there's a second and third, and I have a reasonable chance of being admitted?

First Reserve is the first wave of reserves. Second and third reserve come at later dates. CLS does not rank reserved candidates, so everyone starts off on first reserve.flexityflex86 wrote:What does it mean to be put on First Reserve? Re: Columbia 2011!
Last year they accepted very few held candidates. Apparently a TSLer this cycle has it on "good authority," presumably from an admissions officer, that CLS is using the hold "differently" this year. Essentially, the craziness that was last cycle and the ensuing over enrollment caused them to hold more candidates in a moment of conservatism - given that the anticipated surge never came this cycle, they will likely be admitting more held candidates than they did last year.bob77 wrote:do we have a consensus on whether cls admits a large or a small of amount of the holds? reading through the thread i'm still i'm confused on this...

ah, ok, so we don't really have a benchmark for this year... do we have a sense of whether a very large amount of acceptances have already gone out? or perhaps whether a lot of strong candidates are still held? thanks for your help, btw.amkid100 wrote:Last year they accepted very few held candidates. I think there was a minor wave, an eddy, sometime last week. I think there are a ton of strong candidates who are still held - I, however, while still held, am not one of them hahabob77 wrote:
