You sure the rental stuff isn't used?
Guys, I hate to break it to you, but Cort is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. Warren always wins. Yes, often the furniture is used.

Get to the more important question--does STL have an IKEA? That will solve all of our furnishing dilemmas.

I know I'm the senior citizen in this thread, but I've moved halfway around the world before...moving from somewhere to the MidWest...it's doable. You'll figure the furniture thing out. It's not that hard.

There are rumors about an IKEA coming to STL but they said they haven't determined the timeline or site yet, so i wouldn't bank on it being ready by August =/

but yeah the admitted students portal has some suggestions for furniture sites if you look under the "Moving to St. Louis" tab on the left

My place wont be big enough for a sectional.

Actually one summer during ug I lived in the dorms and a friend asked me to keep his sectional. Freaking took up the entire room.

Wash U has ignored my emails for the past week, including my request for a deposit deadline extension.. Not sure what to make of it.

Ya its really exciting to think we'll be there in 4 months. (Also strange to think that soon after that the newness will wear off and being there no longer be exciting and just part of normal life).

What did you do to get 129k out of WUSTL?
How I got the the 129? Initially I was offered less, but what I did was send them a scholarship I received at x law school for less money than Wash U was originally offering. However the the tuition at x law school was significantly less (Meaning it would be cheaper for me to attend x). So I said I would like my scholarship increased because I would only be paying y thousand/year at x law school. I told them how much I would like to get in a scholarship to equal the total cost of school x. Then about 2-3 weeks later I got an email saying that they revised their offer, and they exceeded what I asked for.

However I treated the scholarship negotiation as basically trying to get admitted part 2. I sent them an update about being promoted at work, I sent in an LOCI, I sent in a writing sample I had done for another school. I also called the school and said I never interviewed for admission...can I interview with scholarship committee. They said no interview, but I figured why not ask?

This doesn't make sense.

So your numbers, sans any disciplinary addendum, got you a huge scholarship from an equivalently ranked school, and yet the presence of this addendum got you rejected from Emory?

The smell test would dictate that something's not right here. I"m curious about the nature of what you did, and how it--assuming it's something significant--wasn't a part of the WUSTL C&F questions.

Well Wash U asks "Have you ever been charged with and/or convicted of a criminal offense, including any matters that may have been expunged, or received anything other than an honorable discharge from the military?"

There are a number of states where public intoxication and light drug use are not considered criminal offenses, but rather noncriminal violations (so you can be arrested and have it not count under Wash U's question as ppl do sometimes get arrested for noncriminal violations in the name of public safety). Also they never ask if you have ever been detained for a crime (where the officer catches you doing something but agrees not to arrest you if you cease doing something)

Right now I've been sober for a while, but I did suffer with substance abuse when I was younger, which led to encounters with police. As for C&F I'm not scared at all. I spoke with the clerk that conducts the hearings in my state. She said they look to see not has this person ever been naughty, but rather do they currently posses the character to be an officer of the court. I ran my history by her and she said not to spend any time worrying as long as I stay sober. She said they are after people who are currently using drugs/drinking too much, people who lie on their law school applications, or any instances of dishonesty and/or ignoring a court order (theft, witness tampering, credit card fraud, writing bad checks, tax fraud, breach of bail conditions (not showing up for court or speaking with somebody a judge has told you not to), or school discipline matters like cheating and plagiarism.

I personally thing the Emory character question should be illegal. Consider the following scenario you are Adam Lanza's brother. You were detained in connection with the killing of 20 children and 6 adults. The police realized you had nothing to do with the crime and let you go. Why should this have to be disclosed/dignified. It has no relevance to your chances of passing C&F. What is to stop schools from asking do you smoke, are you obese, do you have HIV(again all irrelevant to C&F)? I think Emory is on a very slippery slope. For instance in NY it is illegal for an employer to ask an employee if they have ever been arrested. Another example in 1996 the Olympics were bombed in Atlanta. Originally the police arrested a security guard who had nothing to do with the terrorist act. Again how is it relevant to C&F to have to dignify being arrested for a crime he didn't commit? I would be interested to see what would happen if somebody took these questions to court.

Then why can't Goldman Sachs ask have you ever been arrested or detained? They are a private institution too.
