Really?? I'd only heard of ones that apply to attorneys in the public interest sector that make less than a specified amount/year. But then again...the only person I've talked about this with was a PI attorney But it's my impression that there are very decent LRAPs out there for the public interest field.

Well, UCI law will only set you back about $60k plus living expenses for three years, so it won't be quite that bad.

I'm still wondering where I'm going to get the money for all this, but a 10 year repayment on dental school was $542,000 for my friend.

So, I guess it could be worse.

I pay the in-state tuition, thankfully. But you really expect to be spending an average of $39k a year? I understand UCI has listed estimated costs here http://www.law.uci.edu/financial_aid/co ... rrent.html but I don't believe some of the figures. For example, they list housing/living costs at $11K/9mo and I get by perfectly fine with $4500/9mo in West LA (including food/utilities), and the COL of the two areas are comparable. I live with a roommate to cut costs, though, but others may prefer to have their own room. Another $2.3K for "Personal" is understandable, that accounts for $250/mo you spend on whatever you please outside of food/rent. $2.4K for Travel seems absurdly high, but I'm an in-stater so I wouldn't have to pay very much to travel home anyway. The estimated cost for law books is $1.9k - I'm pretty sure this is based on buying all your books new from the bookstore, so I hope no one here actually spends $1.9k on books.

Prob right about the books, but $500/mo for housing, food, and utilities? In W. LA? Are you that guy sleeping by the freeway with the "Will work for food" sign? $500 in rent/utilities w/a roommate is very hard to find, and personally food/hba's (health and beauty aids of course/gas/coffee, etc I'd be prob over the $500/mo easily just on that - $500/30days= just $16/day for food/hba/transport/etc, and that's if you pay no rent/utils. I think you must be calculating something wrong - unless you somehow pay $300 for rent and utilities combined, and get by on $6.50/day for all your food. That wouldn't cover a morning coffee and a $5 footlong.

Seriois, you should write a book, "Law School on $6.50 a day" Probably sell enough copies to cover your food for a year

But that cheap rent is a huge plus for uci, especially to have the awesome so cal weather and live for that cheap - some real pluses to this school.

Buying an espresso machine was the best money I've ever spent, and I have a feeling it'll be keeping me very close company in law school. Starbucks is fine, I suppose, but it's not like I can shoot it into my veins. besides, making your own coffee is much cheaper.
