Re: Univ of Georgia
As far as restaurants go, Last Resort is CRAZY good and CRAZY cheap for the quality. Went there for lunch when we were visiting and would highly recommend it.
It makes me happy hearing about other people in the same boat w/Vandy and Emory. I just don't know if I could justify the debt, especially knowing that I'm really primarily interested in ATL.
My fiance and I toured the campus a couple weeks back and UGA rapidly became our first pick. Athens is awesome, the campus and law school facilities are incredible, at a reasonable price, with dominant prospects in atlanta. Still going to wait and see what Emory throws my way, but its hard to believe it could be more enticing than UGA. To avoid sounding cliche, it just felt right (ad nauseam)
I got tuition equalization too. If they could up the additional scholarship I would enroll today.

How long is normal for an application to be in the status of "being reviewed by the Admissions Committee"?
Thanks in advance.

I was under review for 2-3 days. UGA has a very quick turnaround. Good luck!

I'm a little surprised too, I'm considering trying to negotiate that, just that little extra per year would make it much easier for me due to my unfortunate undergrad debt; and UGA is one of the lower ranked schools I've applied to, but very close to the top of my list.Neil wrote: They're in his/her profile. I'm a little surprised it wasn't equalization + $5,000. What I'm curious about is where kp is located... still holding out a little hope there's a scholarship on its way to NY...
I'm in FL, letter was dated Feb 10 and just arrived today. My acceptance letter said I would hear by Feb 15 so I assume I was in that last batch or two to go out with that deadline, if yours said the same I would assume you'll hear soon. Good luck!

Where are you getting those numbers? Equalization should take you from 45k to 30k, no?Nicholasnickynic wrote:60k-45k... 25% off is pretty nice=)

Trapeze (enlightened pub grub), Casa Mia (Spanish-esque tapas), Cali 'n Titos (cash only, BYOB and delicious Mex), and if you're out late at night, get a brat from the hot dog man on the corner of College and Clayton or a slice at Little Italy.jaxangler wrote:I'm visiting UGA this week and was wondering if anyone had a restaurant suggestion for something that is truly unique to Athens. Thanks for the info! I think it would definitely be worth it in your case to try negotiating, as I'm sure they'd love those numbers.kp009 wrote:I'm a little surprised too, I'm considering trying to negotiate that, just that little extra per year would make it much easier for me due to my unfortunate undergrad debt; and UGA is one of the lower ranked schools I've applied to, but very close to the top of my list.Neil wrote: They're in his/her profile. As for your cost question, my letter states that in-state tuition is $14,448/yr, so it is closer to $45K with equalization, unless I'm missing something...

I'm an URM with a 164 and significant softs - and I was held for further review. How shitty must my app have been?

Ahhh ok, yes I was reading it as cost of attendance per year not cost of tuition over 3 years.Neil wrote: As for your cost question, my letter states that in-state tuition is $14,448/yr, so it is closer to $45K with equalization, unless I'm missing something...
I have accepts with money from Minnesota (20k), UIUC (20k), and W&L (24k). I'm waiting to hear about money from Wake. Anyone have thoughts on whether I should wait for the Wake money to send a "please give me more money I really want to go to your school" email, since (hopefully) the Wake $ will be more?

Same boat, except I'm a non-URM..I just think it's a case of we applied late, although I had a very good explanation of why I applied later in the cycle. Does this essentially just mean "waitlist" in other words?PJC wrote:I'm an URM with a 164 and significant softs - and I was held for further review. How shitty must my app have been?

Finally!!! I received the tuition equalization scholarship for the first year via snail mail today.
To those with $5000/yr scholarship, what are your numbers? My numbers are 165/3.1.

I'd bet you guys will get in. 164 not URM here in the same boat.dhatfie1 wrote:Same boat, except I'm a non-URM..I just think it's a case of we applied late, although I had a very good explanation of why I applied later in the cycle. My understanding is that it's not technically a waitlist. It's just that UGA wants to recieve a full applicant pool before deciding if we're acceptable. I don't really blame them either... with apps up all over the place, its kind of an unsure environment for law schools and it will be interesting to see how everything shakes out when all is said and done. I wonder if medians will significantly shift in some places and stay the same in others....

Anyone know what's going on in Athens the March 27 weekend besides the open house? Just had tons of fun trying to find a hotel.

That's what I'm hoping, I'm calling tomorrow to see if they'll shed any light on what "held" means. I would assume you are correct, but I'll make sure and then post what they say!algren wrote:164 not URM here in the same boat.dhatfie1 wrote:Same boat, except I'm a non-URM..I just think it's a case of we applied late, although I had a very good explanation of why I applied later in the cycle. I'll be there as well. Anyone going to the reception at Alston & Bird on 3/4?

That's too bad I'm really digging UGA right now and would love to start meeting some people. Hopefully there will be a nice turnout at ASD.

I'll be going to both ASW and the Alston + Bird reception. I work 2 blocks from the A+B building so I don't have an excuse not to go.
