Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I want to wait as long as possible, but realistically, how long can I? If you look at last year on LSN, they accepted some people off of the waitlist in the first week of June. I don't know if I can wait that long. I need to get an apartment somewhere else. I just wish they would Accept or Reject at this point.

Accepting people only as currently accepted people withdraw? I could see how this would be advantageous to them since many people, myself included, can wait months for an initial decision but would go elsewhere if they were officially waitlisted. They could get their top fringe candidates to stay interested longer and feel more emotionally invested in the school for waiting so long.
I will preface this with: This is uninformed conjecture.
I have read everything about law school admissions I could get my hands on over the last year, and I think they had a good group they initially extended acceptance to and they are reviewing the remaining pool to replace those who did not put down a seat deposit. I think they are weighing the best way to keep their Median LSAT and GPA up while keeping a "well rounded class" intact. i.e. race, location, undergrad institution etc. I believe they still have more acceptances to send out but they are plugging in everyone to the class to see how it effects their numbers. We don't know if they have accepted 200 or 500 at this point but I think from past numbers they accept around 600 and a little over 200 actually matriculate.
This is beyond conjecture: I think they will go deeper on their wait list than usual this year because of the number of applicants because of the economy (I know, I am tired of hearing about it too) who have put down more seat deposits than usual as well as the number of applicants in general....
Take it for what it is worth.

I heard from a friend who is a current student that they accepted one off the WL the week before orientation (in August!) and another the DAY BEFORE classes began. The last applicant was already living in Dallas and registered for classes at TX Wesleyan and dropped there and registered at SMU......

I would do the same if I were still in Texas. I am either going to be in Oklahoma or Denver.

Not that I have any idea what they do in the admissions office, but tomorrow is an Accepted Students Day, so it's possible the office will be dealing with that most of the day. Just FYI...
But if anyone is going, Hamburger Man is super strong...

So you are one of the lucky ones. Let us know how many people show up. Hopefully only 3 people.

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I didn't receive an e-mail either. Do you think they would be mad if I called to inquire about it? I want to visit campus again (for the 4th time) before I make a decision, and would like to meet some of the other admitted students. It seems like the evening students are being treated like a completely seperate entity.
EDIT: I just called the admissions office, and was rudely told that the ASD tomorrow was "just for day students". I think that excluding part-time students doesn't really serve any purpose, since the majority would be unable to attend due to work. Oh well, looks like I won't be making a trip to Dallas tomorrow.

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
Thanks Hook 'Em for the info as I was considering heading over to the ASD (just for fun
) and coming into work a little bit late.
Unfortunately, after I sent my RSVP, I found out today that I will be unable to attend the May 21st session (seriously, why May 21st and not sooner?) ...

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
Does anyone think that some acceptances will go out today? Or is it pretty much the consensus that the rest of us are most likely waitlisted?

I think the rest of us are pretty much toast. We are either rejected or in limbo.

When do status checkers change (time wise) for those who have been accepted on previous days?

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I received the phone call on Monday at 4:15PM (unfortunately I was on a flight). I checked my status checker at 2:30PM from my office just prior to leaving for the airport and my application was still "UCR" ...

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I noticed the change around 1 p.m., and received a call at 3:30. Hopefully the admitted students day won't affect them, and they'll still be able to make decisions and calls.BigAristotle wrote:When do status checkers change (time wise) for those who have been accepted on previous days?

Re: Anybody heard back from SMU?
I called them (because I'm incredibly nosey I guess) and they said that ASD is seperate from their office and it won't affect their day at all. She said everything will run as usual and they will be sending some out today, all by the 30th, etc.....
