Unrelated to strictly legal shows, but I've been super interested in how superhero movies/shows/stories treat the law.

Yeah! I got a couple episodes in then got sidetracked with LSAT/application stuff, but I've been planning on getting back into it. I think Jessica Jones is also a really interesting example.

Like this blog.
Or how they ignore it, in the case of The Flash. I have a lot of questions about the prison conditions at STAR Labs...

And THANK YOU, that is an awesome link.

Oh my god that is an amazing link - I finished Jessica Jones when it first came out, and this "Defending Kilgrave" article is fascinating!!

Many scenes in Jessica Jones were kind of hard to watch (I'm terrible with graphic things and watching people suffering in any way  ) BUT I still highly recommend it! I tried watching Daredevil but it was too scary to watch alone so I stopped... :(

What. Are you secretly sadistic behind that adorable mini-horse façade? DO YOU ENJOY WATCHING PEOPLE SUFFER? :x But yes, I have a feeling that you might enjoy Jessica Jones, especially if I remember correctly that you mentioned somewhere that you were a psych major! :)

You will love both of them if you like superheroes and dark psychological thriller shows! Definitely a great way to pass the time while waiting now that you're done with the Feb test!

Anyone watch Brooklyn 99? I really loved the arc when Jake dated Eva Longoria's DA character and got a good chuckle out of all the swipes at lawyers

!!!!! Wow I literally JUST started watching it and got hooked immediately. In fact I binged so much that I'm now just arriving at the part with Eva Longoria - yes the way the cops gripe at defence attorneys is stupendous.

Love the show, it's reminiscent of Parks and Rec in many ways for me

+180 I freaking love Brooklyn 99. So much awesome. It's one of the few shows where I can't stop laughing throughout the episode.

Look kid, you're not a lady. You said you were before and then we found out you were actually a dude. And you're STILL posting in here.

I don't care if you want to discuss Jessica Jones. That's what the compendium is for. But your insistence on posting in the ladies thread when you are a dude is disrespectful.

Great idea! I'll add a book one after work today. (Prod me if I forget, I'm super lazy in the evenings.)

And in the meantime, y'all should give me suggestions about answers to the poll.

Quite a few of the choices in the current poll have either written memoirs or have books about them. I've been reading one of Samantha Power's books lately, and The Underground Girls of Kabul and I Am Malala are on my to-read list.

Will this be just nonfiction or a mix of fiction/nonfiction?

Hi y'all -

I just stumbled across this blog this morning while avoiding work. It's a nice mix of fashion and also linking to other pieces about work, women's issues, etc. http://www.caphillstyle.com/

Just figured it might be a helpful resource!

Also, for books, I'd lean towards non-fiction: favorite memoirs of lawyers, books about women in the law, etc. Mainly so I could build my reading list up 8)

Tryna stick to only female authors, and female protagonists for the fiction section. I'm not saying these are all created equal, but it's stuff I read that made me think.

Non-fiction, law ish
My Beloved World
Pro: Reclaiming Abortion Rights (obviously, not for everyone)
Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

Non fiction, non law ish
Why Not Me?
The Girls of Atomic City
Yes, Please
The Glass Castle
Lean In
Quiet

Fiction
Station Eleven
Handmaiden's Tale
Americanah
Persepolis
Gone Girl
