This might be the stupidest question to ever make the Penn Law forum but making it from UR1 to UR2 doesn't really mean anything positive does it? Penn Law says that they review applications by at least 2 different people so isn't it a possiblity that UR2 just means the second person is reviewing it?


Sorry again for the less-than-intelligent question, I'm an ED2 applicant and my application just made UR1 yesterday... don't want to get my hopes up high for nothing if it makes UR2 lol.

That's the way I took it as well. I am not really competitive for Penn (just below 25th LSAT and between 25th and 50th GPA), but received an app fee waiver and I have really good softs, so I figured I'd apply as a reach school. I went UR2 on 1/12, so I would bet that everyone goes UR2 at some point.

yeah, UR2, from what I understand, just means that your file has been transferred to the 2nd member of the adcomm who is going to review it, and that once they are done, a decision will be made.. so it's not so much positive/negative... just that it means you're going to find out one way or another soon--although for many it seems that "soon" can mean up to 3 months and counting...

Yes, I am pretty sure that everyone gets UR2 (and, in rare occasions, UR3 even), and the general consensus indeed seems to be that UR2 indicates the file being handed over to a second reviewer (and that UR3 usually takes place when the two reviewers' opinions are at odds with each other). It appears that usually it takes a while for the status to change from UR1 to UR2, but then the turnaround from UR2 to decision is pretty quick -- however, in my case, the turnaround between UR1 and UR2 was only two days (01/06->01/08), so it might be the case that UR2 is coming up soon for you as well!

I hope so! ED2 decisions say that they'll have a decision rendered by Jan 31. On one end that makes me very excited but on the other I'm dreading the seemingly negative and inevitable news lol. Thanks for everyone's input it means a lot!!

Unfortunately, not knowing today would be Decision Friday, I scheduled myself for office work in the morning and field work in the afternoon, so I'll be on the road or in meetings when (if) the call comes. I'm hoping I get the call before noon.
