Awesome, thanks! I'll see if I can dig through and find it. Also, great analysis!

Whoa - I had no idea they had an index formula that was public. Is it just SLS who publishes theirs?
Lots of schools publish them. They are available on LSAC, but they are fricking impossible to find - it takes me 15 minutes every time I try to find them.
go to your LSAC profile, transcripts section, click on the link to the admission index pdf on the right side of the screen

For the index, can you calculate the quartiles directly from the data rather than from the index of someone at 25th GPA and 25th LSAT?

ie 25% of admitted applicants had an index below this value

Thanks for the work!

From this it appears that index is a slightly better indicator of admissions chances than either LSAT or GPA (which is to be expected, since it accounts for both LSAT and GPA) - but there is still a huge swath of index scores where all results are possible.

ETA: the black lines are 25th, 50th and 75th values - for index graph the lines are the calculated index at both 25ths, 50ths, and 75ths

ETA: I lied about the source of this data - it is actually from 2011-2014, excluding URM.

did you modify your admission index formula for older years? stanford changed their formula a few years ago to put more emphasis on LSAT (i cant remember the year)

Eh, I've done it because it's super easy - but I don't know how helpful it is since the percentage of acceptances reported on lsn is low.

25th: 3.484
50th: 3.53
75th: 3.57

ETA: Not that my previous method was helpful either - it's probably less helpful.

Nope, same index formula used for all of my analysis.

I'm also below my calculated 25th index (3.475 - get at me Stanford!).
I also hope that I get in (and that you get in as well!)

Stanford - let me tell you all of the ways that I love you. I can put them in graphical form if you'd like.

Now that you put it that way, I'm surprised by how much the LSAT outweighs GPA.

At 3.514 :?

Thanks for the graphs!

I'm confused as to why these index percentages differ so much from the graphic ones you posted earlier (on those, both the 25% and 50% are below 3.5). Can you explain this? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious.

The ones on the graph were found by using the GPA and LSAT to calculate the index - for example using the 25th LSAT (169) and 25th GPA (3.76) to find the lowest index line (3.38)

The calculated ones are the indices from the reported admits. So 25% of admits on mylsn had an index less than 3.484.

ETA: There are a million things wrong with both the graphed lines, and the calculated values (they don't account for changing medians over the years for which data is used, small sample size of data, self-reported data, just to name the obvious). Don't use them to make any major life decisions.

Shit so I shouldn't have withdrawn?

ETA: Obviously just messing around. Thanks for clearing that up though! :D

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's snail mail. Apparently after getting DLS you can call the admissions office and ask for your decision. However, conventional wisdom seems to be getting DLS without an accompanying phone call from admissions means either WL or ding.

Not really surprised bc they obv prefer high GPAs over high LSAT. Still a bit disappointing.

Good luck to those of you still in the hunt!

Dude, that blows. Did you switch majors? Because I see your GPA is 3.9, but you have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 for law school purposes. Hoping that the rest of your cycle turns out amazing.

Update since we now have had a few rejections

All info is for decisions that I know about (so super incomplete data).

INDEX SCORES FOR ACCEPTANCES SO FAR (41):
3.23-3.66
URM-excluded: 3.4-3.66

INDEX SCORES FOR REJECTIONS SO FAR (7):
3.18-3.5

Conclusions: Everyone with a better application than me should probably just withdraw.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
