ETA something relevant: Did those of you who did not interview with JS get similarly targeted questions, or have other interviewers been more vague (a la KB of yore)?

This is an excellent question. From what I remember, KB's approach was rather formulaic; JS's was targeted at the applicant.everything_bagel wrote:

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
I had my interview today with Danielle Early.
She had pretty directed questions for me. She clearly looked through my application and spoke directly about my undergraduate institution/extracurriculars but she did it in the context of formulaic questions. Given you've done x and x, why do you want to go to law school? I see you have x extracurricular, how does that relate to law? Stuff like that.
It was a short interview. I talked for maybe ~10 minutes. Then she asked me if I had any questions.
Asked her one question and then she said it was time for her to sign off.

Do you get the impression that she just took a look at your resume before the interview? In other words, no indication that she just read your PS etc?liawy wrote:I had my interview today with Danielle Early.

Feedback on my Harvard personal statement?
The reasons that I have for wishing to go to Harvard are several. I feel that Harvard can give me a better background and a better liberal education than any other university. I have always wanted to go there, as I have felt that it is not just another college, but is a university with something definite to offer. Then too, I would like to go to the same college as my father. To be a "Harvard man" is an enviable distinction, and one that I sincerely hope I shall attain.

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
This sounds more like an undergrad application essay than a law school PS, in terms of topic. My understanding is that Harvard doesn't really want to hear why you want to go there (they know why, it's Harvard). They want to know about you and what makes you an interesting and compelling candidate.Dirigo wrote:Your syntax is pretty weird.paragonloop wrote:Checking in!

Idk that you really need to mention Why Harvard. But if you do, this doesn't seem like the best way to do it. I definitely wouldn't use any of this.paragonloop wrote:Checking in!

"My desire to come to Princeton is prompted by a number of reasons. I feel that it can give me a better background and training than any other university, and can give me a true liberal education. Ever since I entered school, I have had the ambition to enter Princeton, and I sincerely hope I can reach my goal. Then too, I feel the environment of Princeton is second to none, and cannot but help having a good effect on me. To be a “Princeton Man” is indeed an enviable distinction."

Yep, that's definitely the impression I got. Probably didn't look at the personal statement.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!LetsGoMets wrote:JSDone. Spent after my interview, but happy to answer PMs with questions. Generally, had a very relaxed discussion (it was JS herself) about what I'm doing now and my plans for the future. Probably rambled a bit too much, but can't think it hurts as much if you have too many things to say as not having enough.
One general recommendation, which is already out there, is do not by any means go into it without having some questions prepared. They will make time for it, and you don't want to be caught off guard.
EDIT: Oh, and I also got the "it's early in the cycle so it could be a while before you hear back" at the end as others have reported getting, so I think that's just a standard disclaimer they're giving to everyone this year. Turkey Day Surprise still seems possible, but we'll see.

Hope the thanksgiving surprise comes along your way!
