There are a multitude of factors leading me to think that there is probably an 80% chance of me ending up in Charlottesville next year barring some serious $$$ from HCCN.

also, I met one of the directors at a lsac forum and he told me to email him when I applied. did he really mean that and what would such an email say?

I would email him. "Hey I met you at X and you told me to lkeep you updated when I applied...." then end with something along the lines stating that you arent asking for a special favor or anythjing just checking in.

I wouldn't say any of this just because it sounds like you don't have anything to say. If you haven't already submitted, might throw a sentence about a nice meeting/discussion with him into your Why UVA. Even if the director you met doesn't read your app, it shows a level of interest without the awkward email.

I was told it was in preparation for possible questions the committee would have in reviewing my application.

The Dean I believe, but I was a bit flustered at the beginning so I forget the name.

I received an email this morning inviting me to call the Dean of Admissions to talk about my application, I called and he asked me a couple questions regarding if I was still interested and if there was anything else admissions should know before they make their decision and then I was offered ADMISSION!!

He told me I was accepted and that I would be getting $$. It was a great conversation and he was SO nice. If you get this email definitely don't stress and just be honest. Best of luck to everyone!
