i am leaning towards temple though. i would be paying less if i go there, provided that i get their instate rate after much scheming, and that the budget proposal doesn't drastically affect that rate.

It's funny, the only people that seem to give 2 shits about the rankings are the schools and the 0Ls. I bet the vast majority of students couldn't tell you what the rank of their respective school is from year to year, nor could the overwhelming majority of employers, outside the top 10-15 (meaning these year-to-year fluctuations are pretty f'ing worthless and irrelevant).

That ranking is hard to swallow. The ranking, however, may be greatly due to low reporting numbers from recent graduates. We are only reporting 46.8% Graduates known to be employed at graduation. Most schools are way higher. That is killing us. Luckily, I think that is something that can be fixed. We just need to do a better job soliciting responses from recent graduates.


We did, however, remain in the top forty in NLJ250 rankings. Released February 28, 2011.

That is not reflective of graduates actually hired. It does reflect the poor job Villanova has done in soliciting responses from recent graduates however. I am certain that under the current administration this will improve.

yeah, it's definitely a low number but try to remember that some people might not have responded at all and that plays into how low that number is.

I don't care how much the torts professor spends on binders, or how many applicants the school rejects, or what other law schools think about my law school. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm in this for the job.

So, which ranking do YOU really care about?

I think this makes a very strong point. Especially if the NLJ 250 rankings are more steady than the USNWR rankings. The fluctuations of rankings in USNWR from year to year seem arbitrary especially when you see a steady ranking of NLJ 250 employment. I think it is strong evidence of what some have claimed about the year to year USNWR changes in rankings have little, if any, impact on employment.

At least for me the employment statistics are more compelling.

^Definitely. For those that want big law, NLJ rankings are more important. Some of us don't want big law, however, and so they don't mean much. On the flipside, if you're not going for big law, U.S. news rankings are basically irrelevant too. Get good grades, make connections, don't be a waste of space in law school. Go to a school that has a good program for what you want to do. And avoid debt if possible. Outside of the T-14 and maybe the top 25 (this has been said a thousand times before me) rankings are meaningless.
