GULC doesn't take financial need into account when allotting merit money. That's why they only make you fill out the need access if you're applying for need-based grant assistance.masterthearts wrote:Merit scholarship question.
Is it correct to say that in order to get merit money at gulc you also need to have a financial need as demonstrated by the fafsa?
What if there is no financial need? Can you still get merit money? Several schools have me merit money without financial consideration. Gulc does not do this, correct?

WHERE IS THE NEXT ROUND OF SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS WE WERE PROMISED.
Thank you.

I'm filling out the Dean's Certification form for Georgetown. It asks whether I want to waive access to the report or not. What are benefits/downsides of waiving access?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Has anyone who got a request to make an offer to them for scholarships done that yet? Or are you all waiting to hear from some more schools first? Do you think Gtown would try to beat a scholarship from Cornell?

Any DC dwellers have an opinion on the Senate Square Towers apartments, right by campus? They look really nice, but the few reviews I can find are not very favorable.

Re: IN at GULC c/o 2014
Just got an email about an offer for $25,000 per year for 3 years. When I got the first email asking if I was interested, I said yes and I am weighing between GULC, NYU, Columbia, Berkeley and UCLA. Also I said I have a $35,000 per year/3 year from UCLA to leverage. I guess they feel they are $10,000 per year better than UCLA.

I just got an email too. 10k/year. I told them I have around 80k total at both UT and Vanderbilt and also am considering Northwestern. Pretty much rules them out for me if they can't come up with more $.champsound wrote:Just got an email about an offer for $25,000 per year for 3 years. Congrats! I got 15k a year. Happy to receive funds but is it likely (or even possible) that $$ at GULC can help swing scholarship cash at higher ranked schools?champsound wrote:Just got an email about an offer for $25,000 per year for 3 years. Looks like we are having similiar cycles - just sent GULC 45k a year offer from Cornell hoping they'll match. I went to Gtown undergrad and I'd much rather be in DC then Ithaca but also considering NYU, CLS and Berk at (gulp) sticker. Jealous you've heard from UCLA - I live right down the street and its been months of silence... Anyway, just wondering how long it took GULC to get back to you after you sent them the offers and, if you don't mind, what your stats were like?
Thanks!

They are nice, but expensive for the area. There's not a whole lot of fun stuff around there either. I considered living there but ended up finding something better on Capitol Hill and I pay a lot less.Marionberry wrote:Any DC dwellers have an opinion on the Senate Square Towers apartments, right by campus? For those receiving offers today- was the completion of FAFSA/ Need Access/ Yellow Form a necessary prerequisite?

This is possible--I originally got 10K a year, told them about my Michigan scholarship ($22.5K/yr), and just got an email saying that I had been increased to $20K/yr.RJ127 wrote:Congrats! EDIT: Whoops, reading comp fail. I was talking about using higher ranked schools (Michigan) and leveraging their $$ at GULC.

No, just respond to the email they sent you saying something about "Merit scholarship consideration at Georgetown Law"llamaman wrote:For those receiving offers today- was the completion of FAFSA/ Need Access/ Yellow Form a necessary prerequisite?

Thanks! And thanks to anyone who resisted pointing out the redundancy in 'necessary prerequisite'.

Aren't all the big apartment buildings close to GULC similarly priced? The only one I found that was cheaper was Capitol Plaza, but they don't allow pets. 425 mass is out, too, so now I'm looking at the Gables - City Vista, the Loree Grand, and Flats 130, in addition to Senate Square.src42 wrote:They are nice, but expensive for the area. 10k/yr. Actually pleasantly surprised, but I'd need at least 20/yr to seriously consider it, I think. We'll see.

Well, yeah, I guess if you're BigApartment or bust, it's probably comparably priced. But if you're diligent and patient, Craigslist is your friend.Marionberry wrote:Aren't all the big apartment buildings close to GULC similarly priced? Not necessarily bigapartment or bust, but proximity to GULC and safety are the biggest concerns. Some of the capitol hill neighborhoods in which affordable rowhouses can be found, while fine with me, would be hard sells to my future wife. Also, having something lined up a little bit in advance is a big plus.

I 2nd src42, you can definitely find comparable sized housing in capitol hill for cheaper than the BigApartments. It is difficult to line something up more than a few months in advance thoughMarionberry wrote:src42 wrote:Well, yeah, I guess if you're BigApartment or bust, it's probably comparably priced. Well, more than a couple of months isn't necessary. But are you just talking about apartments/basements in rowhouses and the like?hipstermafia wrote:I 2nd src42, you can definitely find comparable sized housing in capitol hill for cheaper than the BigApartments.
