I believe the essay is for scholarship consideration.oscodasa wrote:Essay requested? Mine updated to 11/29 and I was admitted around lunch time on 11/30. My status page now has a congrats message and the status is "admitted-essay requested." They also listed the email in mail sent and added 1st and 2nd deposits to the requirements check list.

For dean's scholarship. They asked for an essay explaining how to choose a major to a college student.

I told my gf the topic. She has changed her major 3 times and is now in the process of applying to grad school for academic advising/student affairs. Hopefully I can bounce ideas off of her.Arbiter213 wrote:That is a badass essay.slax wrote:oscodasa wrote:Essay requested? Good luck to all!funnycruel if they sent out conditional acceptance letters to borderline candidates, requesting the "satisfactory completion" of an additional essay.
They'd have a higher yield but lower medians.

Re: Cornell 2011 applicants
So, I realize Cornell is slow, and I'm probably not the only one in this situation, but I submitted my application about a month ago and it hasn't even gone complete yet (still "processing"). I'm not too worried at this point. But is there a point when I should contact the admission's office to make sure they did in fact receive my info (transcripts, PS..) from LSAC? I assume things do occasionally get misplaced or lost, given the number of applicants they receive. Is a month way too soon to inquire about my status?

I just came here to ask the same question. It seems strange to me to still be "processing" for that long.calilaw wrote:So, I realize Cornell is slow, and I'm probably not the only one in this situation, but I submitted my application about a month ago and it hasn't even gone complete yet (still "processing"). i know TLS is supposedly a sample of the brightest, but there sure seem to be a lot of people here competing for a scholarship offered to 10 people. certainly they can't be deciding just from this essay? i guess they offer smaller scholarships to those who don't succeed?op-ti wrote:oscodasa wrote:Essay requested? Cornell is pretty stingy, I wouldn't expect much $$ unless you had numbers above both 75th or at least one above 75th and another near/at median.Frankie55 wrote:i know TLS is supposedly a sample of the brightest, but there sure seem to be a lot of people here competing for a scholarship offered to 10 people. certainly they can't be deciding just from this essay? i guess they offer smaller scholarships to those who don't succeed?op-ti wrote:oscodasa wrote:Essay requested? i am actually there for some of the t14. unfortunately, they rarely seem to send direct offers in the admissions letter. i anticipate waiting/negotiating for that will be more stressful than admissions itself.whymeohgodno wrote:

What are their 75ths? I looked on the website but could only find the medians (168/3.70)whymeohgodno wrote:Cornell is pretty stingy, I wouldn't expect much $$ unless you had numbers above both 75th or at least one above 75th and another near/at median.
