Re: Ohio State 2011 Applicants
Hey guys,
I just admitted by both Indiana U-Bloomington and OSU, their scholarships are the same $ vs.$. So here I am a bit unsure about where should I go. Given all the information in this forum and others, I have the impression that Indiana U-Bloomington$ and Ohio-State$ are quite similar schools (USNews IUB-23 vs.OHS-35). They are all regional (although strong), all state-university, so I assume their job prospect are pretty the same? I, although quite open to other job options, plan to work in the east coast, preferably NYC or PA. Are there anything I should have considered but failed to? I really appreciate if you could share it with me. Thank you!

Hey! The main difference is the regions are different, advantage OSU.tiansnake wrote:Hey guys,

OSU is the best/most respected school in the state of Ohio located in the best city (imo) and capital city of the state, whereas IUB has to compete with Notre Dame for prestige and IU-Indy in the capital. Also, the jobs are better in Ohio because Jones Day and Baker & Hostetler are here as are a number of big name Fortune 500 companies.
I'm not sure how the reach compares...I think New York sees them equally (respectable), but I'm not sure OSU students leave as often because they don't have to. Pre-ITE, both IUB and OSU funneled students into the Chicago market mores than the NE. I think you should definitely ask both admissions offices for information on their alumni in the Northeast. I'm not sure OSU students leave the region as often because they don't have to. If you can't get to NY immediately, you could try to get a job at the Columbus office of a major firm and then transfer to the NY office after a couple years.
Anyway, congrats on the scholarship!

Do you want to live in a college town for 3 years or a city? Have you visited both and found which is the best fit for you?tiansnake wrote:Hey guys,

Thank you! So am I right in saying that the in-state job prospect in Ohio is better than that in Indiana?Lwoods wrote:I think New York sees them equally (respectable), but I'm not sure OSU students leave as often because they don't have to.

Thank you for replying! I think city life is more familiar to me, but I don't mind a college-town environment at all. Actually I would be ok if being locked up in a cave for 3 years and then walk into biglaw!cinephile wrote:Do you want to live in a college town for 3 years or a city? Just got back from the March 17-18 ASW and had a fantastic time. I thought the facilities were adequate and the atmosphere in which you study law is top notch. Definitely made my upcoming decision much more difficult but after visiting it I could see myself in Columbus next fall with the majority of you all.

Re: Ohio State 2011 Applicants
Just withdrew with an 11K a year scholly.
Hopefully that opens up a spot and/or some money to the lovely folks of TLS.
Just decided I would be happier at other schools and wanted to be fair to other applicants.

File still under review. I got an email from the FA office informing me that they needed additional documentation before they could give me a firm financial aid offer. Problem is that the temporary password they sent me does not work (I went to the site they listed to change temporary password to one of my choosing). I called Tech Support and they promised to send me a new temp. password right away but still haven't gotten anything. I'll keep jumping through the hoops for OSU though, hopefully it's a good sign that they are working on a financial aid package for me.

Also withdrawing today (5k in merit aid). In the end, the prospect of stepping off the career ladder and moving from NYC to Cbus to incur a lot of debt was not particularly appealing.

Thank you to those who are considerate enough to withdraw if they don't intend to attend. So many people sit around locking up a slot and $$$ with no intentions of going. It's mighty decent of you to withdraw if you have better prospects. The best of luck to you wherever you land!

Hey, glad you had good time at the ASW. It seems that there weren't too many TLS folk there like the March 4-5 one. If you have any reservations/questions about Columbus or the University, there are plenty of locals on this thread.cj2k14 wrote:Just got back from the March 17-18 ASW and had a fantastic time. In today by email. Submitted app 12/3. Finally!
Now to wait and see if they offer any $$$. The email still says "Beginning in late January/early February, we will be contacting you with financial aid and scholarship information, and other communications." Therefore, I should know about financial aid and scholarship information by 1-2 months ago!

Anyone successfully negotiate scholarship/grant money with OSU yet? Is it possible?!
