Just got held this afternoon via e-mail.. But I imagine that the prospects of getting in after being held aren't as bad as people seem to think that they are, or else there would really be no point of distinguishing between hold and reserve, would there?

Also the letter I received indicates that this year's applicant pool was large ("This year's applicant pool... promises to be among the largest and most highly qualified in our history") which seems to contradict with everyone saying this year had unusually low numbers. Is this just CLS rhetoric? Why does everyone keep saying that this year's pool was smaller?

Last question... the letter says holds will be notified BY April 22 - does any one know if last year people hear back before that date or was it exactly on April 22?

The last few years of Hold data show notifications coming in around the 10th of April.

When I called to ask about the timeline, the woman sounded pretty serious that they couldn't "guarantee a decision before April 22nd," but I'm just gonna chalk that up to them being overly conservative. First or second week of April would be great, otherwise I'll probably withdraw.

What was your complete date? Mine was Feb 14 and I heard back today and they say its first come first serve. If yours was before that then no idea!

If I had to guess, it'd be a combo of people shotgunning the T5 and the massive amounts of fee waivers CLS sent out.

Story of my cycle. Harvard's hold, (while laughably generous and with no JR1) is the highlight from my T14 applications.

Oh well, I'm from KC and like it so WUSTL with major scrilla is not a bad gig.

Quick q to those on hold: Since academic transcripts should be in by 3/31, should I assume the same for LOCI/updated resume? :: Should I email it tomorrow as opposed to snail mail to guarantee it gets there before Thursday or mail it in tomorrow?

I took the date to be the deadline for ALL materials. Also, since CLS does take updates via email (unlike some schools like HLS or YLS), I would just email them the resume and LOCI to make it easier on yourself.

I would have all the materials in by the 31st. My assumption was that they will begin to review holds after that date, so it will be in your best interest to have sent in all the materials by then.

It's the equivalent of being waitlisted. Main difference is that reserves won't be considered until (probably) after the deposit date, while holds will receive a decision (accept/ding/reserve) by April 22nd.

For those of us that submitted by December, their website says we should "expect a response by March." If you call the office, they say "We are releasing decisions through the end of April."

Ugh, so I looked at LSN for last year's numbers and saw only like TWO people who got accepted in mid-late April. A lot of rejections and reserves. To whoever said they would be using holds differently this year, I hope you're right!

That's not too bad I would be thrilled to get held at Harvard (still haven't heard back from them but expecting my ding any day now...) plus you can always apply to transfer next year. I read that many of the top schools will accept 2nd year transfers with lower stats because it doesn't affect their entrance averages/rankings.

Ya back when that huge wave of holds came out, there was a big pile of 4.4 indices that were forgotten and subsequently held. It was a bit surprising - that's their median.
