Re: Columbia 2011!
If you're put on hold (which I was, yesterday, I think), does that mean that you should submit a LOCI (1 page?) and an additional LOR? I could do both of these. The LOR would probably have quite a bit more sway than my LOCI, but I feel like I can't really just send a LOR and not a LOCI, right? (By 'can't' I mean closer to 'shouldn't'.) The email says we will be notified by 4/22. How long do you think I have to get these materials together and submit them? At what point would it be too late / not make a difference in how they consider my app in the "hold" period?

Has anyone else still not heard anything back?
Would it be good to submit a LOCI, or is hearing nothing by now just a total death sentence?

Re: Columbia 2011!
If you're able to send both, I'd send both. Also, doesn't the hold email give us a deadline of March 29th to send in materials? I was held a few weeks back so I don't know if the content of our emails would differ.Lisi wrote:If you're put on hold (which I was, yesterday, I think), does that mean that you should submit a LOCI (1 page?) and an additional LOR? Mine says "In the interim, you may also submit an updated academic transcript, if applicable, through March 31, 2011, to supplement your application while it is still under review by our Committee." That's it. No mention of "materials" or "other materials."Confused7 wrote: If you're able to send both, I'd send both. Yeah, they only mention "transcripts." But it doesn't matter. I'm sure they expect new LORs and LOCIs if they give the option of sending updated transcripts. I would send those materials in since the deadline is creeping up.Lisi wrote:Mine says "In the interim, you may also submit an updated academic transcript, if applicable, through March 31, 2011, to supplement your application while it is still under review by our Committee." Re: Columbia 2011!
That's interesting. I guess I can get to them this weekend. As an aside, I think it's kind of strange how schools have all of these implicit norms / expectations that they don't state directly. Send transcripts = you should send other additional material? Deadline for "full consideration" is X = if you gets your apps in on the later side (but still before the deadline), your chances go way down? I think admissions committees should be more standardized and straight forward with that they expect, will accept, and how we will be evaluated. TLS is very helpful, but I think a lot of the explaining done here could be minimized and corrected if admissions committees spelled things out in a more explicit and standardized way.Confused7 wrote: Yeah, they only mention "transcripts." Re: Columbia 2011!
Reserve via email this morning.
The wording in the letter is weird, they make it sound like a "hold", although I know they're entirely different things. Oh well. Probs not going to ride it out.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting!

So if the regular decision folks who've been waitlisted will be reviewed on 4/22, is it safe to assume that that's when ED applicants who've been pushed to RD will be reviewed?

I would have assumed you'd hear before then.bryannance wrote:So if the regular decision folks who've been waitlisted will be reviewed on 4/22, is it safe to assume that that's when ED applicants who've been pushed to RD will be reviewed?

There has been a steady stream of decisions ever since I got mine early last week. I imagine it will continue and you will hear back soon, perhaps...Knock wrote:Yes.nakiko2003 wrote:Why columbia has remained silent for me since january??!!! is that normal?????

I applied 1/10 and heard back last week (with a hold), so silence for you at this point shouldn't be surprising.BrightLine wrote:Silent for me as well, I applied in February though (before the deadline)

You're my application date twin - now I'm going to check my email even more oftenjrose5 wrote:I applied 1/10 and heard back last week (with a hold), so silence for you at this point shouldn't be surprising.BrightLine wrote:Silent for me as well, I applied in February though (before the deadline)

Maybe maybe maybe if they got to you, I'll hear something soon (assuming they actually do look in order of application...)
And at least hold means you're still in the running!

Re: Columbia 2011!
Checked out your complete date - for some reason you went complete ~10 days after me! Well, no one ever said they had to go in order... That may explain why you have not heard back yet.ryokoyuy wrote:You're my application date twin - now I'm going to check my email even more oftenjrose5 wrote:I applied 1/10 and heard back last week (with a hold), so silence for you at this point shouldn't be surprising.BrightLine wrote:Silent for me as well, I applied in February though (before the deadline)

Really? Wow, I guess that means they had a lot of applications coming in around that time!jrose5 wrote:Checked out your complete date - for some reason you went complete ~10 days after me! Re: Columbia 2011!
Just got pre-waitlisted, aka held. Applied late after getting a last minute fee waiver. Stats are 170/3.9x.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
