sorry, should have clarified by saying col + tuition... combined the total cost would still be more than other higher ranked schools.kalvano wrote:hhg wrote:hhg wrote:just got my dean's scholly offer in the mail - a bit over 25k per year if i remain in good standing etc. pretty enticing. gonna try to find a chance to visit... wish there was a travel stipend for asd.
after actually looking into cost of living etc, i realized that even with the scholly it's still going to cost more than some of my other higher ranked schools - does smu match/compete? i'm big on prestige (even though i kind of try not to be), but i also already have $100k in loans from undergrad so i'm trying to keep an open mind...
COL?
Dallas is dirt-cheap to live compared to every other major city. I guess it's more expensive than Lexington or Winston-Salem, but not by much.

Re: SMU 2010!
Something to ask yourself is how completely those schools dominate their market, and what kind of salary will you be making coming out of them?
SMU dominates Dallas, and you should do pretty well in finding a job. Even if the median is cut by $30K due to the economy, that's still about $80K a year, which goes pretty far in Dallas.

Looks like a few people on LSN got some money for PT. Hoping to hear something tomorrow.cafloyd12 wrote:Have any PT admits received scholly info? Not that I expect to get one. I'm just curious as to if they sent them all at the same time.

Re: SMU 2010!
Not to sound greedy or ungrateful, but is this the extent of the scholarship money or will there be another wave later? (obviously excluding the Hughes and Sumner) Half $ is good but more would be much better.
Also I took a tour last week and asked a bunch of questions. They were very helpful and the campus (really a "quad" with a courtyard) was impressive. Starkly different from UH campus.

Does anyone know what the total cost will be? I see the $35,996 tuition and $4,190 for fees, but they didn't include a room/board cost. I need to know the big, all-inclusive total number.

Re: SMU 2010!
Looking at last year's $$ the amounts were bigger and for lesser numbers. It's hard to believe some of you with your stellar numbers are only getting a half to nearly three-fourths tuition. I remember from last year, however, several posters receiving a bigger scholarship after their initial offer.

Does anyone know why they have 4,190 in fees? Is that per year or just for first years? I don't see fees even close to that with any other school....chrisokc wrote:Does anyone know what the total cost will be? I was wondering the same thing. Is it only for first years? What are "fees"? I'll try to email them unless someone around here knows.justcap wrote:Does anyone know why they have 4,190 in fees? Received scholly today, 25300 per year. Love to go to SMU but I have better $$ offers from higher and similarly ranked schools so I'm hoping I can get them to match...that tuition rise is not cool.

Re: SMU 2010!
Are we sure there is a tuition raise coming? I thought the post regarding the tuition raise was actually referring to UH as in Houston raising their tuition. I could have totally read it wrong though. I think Fathergoose posted it, maybe he could tell us what he meant. Or if it is a raise, where he got that info.Gunners87 wrote:Received scholly today, 25300 per year. Dean's Scholarship of $5k per year for PT
So fucking pumped. Went from hoping for T2 to $ at T1.
99.9999% chance I wind up at Dallas in the fall!

Re: SMU 2010!
The tuition increase is only for UH. I think it's to cover deficits in the budget and help with the new building they are trying to put up. SMU's tuition is stationary at an unseemly 40k according to my acceptance packet. Although SMU fared pretty well in those NALP employment numbers going around TLS so maybe it's almost reasonable.isaiah6v8 wrote:Are we sure there is a tuition raise coming? Ah ok, sorry for raising the alarm. 40k a year is still steep but hopefully more scholly money will come...
