Quick question - does chicago interview everyone they admit??
"I was not invited to interview. Does this negatively affect my chances of admission?

You should not read anything into whether you have been invited to interview. Being offered an interview does not mean that a candidate is guaranteed admission, nor does it mean that the Admissions Committee has questions about the applicant, or that the application is borderline."

from their FAQ. thats the closest thing to an answer I could find. Im thinking that this implies that not everyone who is offered admission gets interviewed

I think they do interview everyone they admit, kinda like H. that changes later in the cycle, especially with WL admits though.

Is the general consensus that we won't see another wave of acceptances until mid-late February, as per last year?

So I think I'm going to start panicking now. I think I went complete around the same time.

Congrats btw :)
thanks jaws! Definitely don't panic yet, though. There were many accepted in this second wave who were complete in Sept/early October and skipped over on Dec. 31st.

For Chicago Law, does anyone know if you need to apply for need-based aid through the needaccess form in order to be considered for the full range of merit scholarships? In other words, are the 100k, 50k, or even the named scholarship kind of aid given out primarily on the basis of merit also factoring in need? Or is there any other harm to not filing needaccess if you do not think you likely qualify for financial aid?

Had my interview yesterday and the interviewer seemed to alternate between being disinterested and hostile, it was really uncomfortable

I was waitlisted yesterday.

I'm not too surprised. I was not that into Chicago, and pretty much only applied because I had a fee waiver. I wonder if they could sense that from my application.

I'm going to tell myself they could, and that they waitlisted me for that reason rather than based on the merits of my application.

Merit and need are considered entirely separately, so it logically follows that filling out the need forms can only help you. You also have the opportunity to include some of your own words at the end of the app if you see fit to do so.
Thanks for the reply, but I'm still curious about whether the majority of the scholarships are pure merit or merit/need combined consideration, and thus whether it is always needed to go through the exercise of filing needaccess. Entirely clear it wouldn't hurt to file, just wondering about the opposite situation.

It doesn't seem like they have gotten around to the November completes, at least as far as this thread and LSN is concerned. We probably won't hear anything until next month.

Some points that I thought are worth sharing:
  • - I only had a UR1 (12/29 - a week or so after my interview) before being admitted.
    - My interviewer did not seem very interested in what I had to say, nor did she seemed thrilled by my answers.
Hopefully the fact that I was admitted given these factors helps some of you out with your concerns!

My sense from my interview, and this seems consistent with what has been posted here, is that the interviewer was attempting to be impassive and not to give any positive feedback. That's just an interview strategy, maybe to see how applicants cope with pressure. I would definitely be prepared for it and not take it as any indication of their assessment of your value as an applicant.

There is merit reserved/considered for everyone, and I think need is a separate pool. Even if they were the same pool, applying for need would once again only help... if you're thinking about "how long does it take to fill this out" the answer is about 30 minutes for each person who does it (you/custodial parent/non-custodial parent).
Thank you for the information and help. As to the reason for my question, it is not about wanting to save the time on filling out the forms, but rather certain complexities in chasing down exact numbers on some parental assets, given some peculiar things about their specific financial situation. Since I would not feel comfortable at anything but 100% accuracy, and it will take many days of work to achieve that, and I am somewhat confident need-based aid would not be available, I am considering not filing, but wanted to be sure it wouldn't affect scholarship eligibility (as costs are still very much a concern, as my parents would not be contributing much or perhaps anything and loans would be the only other recourse). I will certainly be filing the fafsa for loan aid.

This makes a lot of sense (and makes me feel a lot better). I also had a sort of disappointing interview, where there wasn't much feedback, positive or otherwise, but it was clear the interviewer was taking notes. Thought I'd bombed it, because when the interviewer doesn't really engage, I end up blabbering. But then, I got accepted, so it can't have been as bad as I thought it was (right?).

Hopefully that helps ease the minds of people still under review a little!
