That's just false. Schools have been super slow this cycle. No way they are even close being done to admitting people. Probably trying to get a better sense of the applicant pool (December takers too).Kip wrote:I suspect NYU (like most other T14s) are just waiting to w/l or ding until after the holidays. Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
Oh my god I feel so much better after reading these. I'm UR 10/15 as well, GPA ~50th, LSAT above 75th. NYU was my top choice so I was getting rather disheartened... I didn't think my softs were abysmal (I've gotten accepted to other schools so it can't have been that bad) but it's not like my stats are high enough to be YP. Ahh who knows how the admissions people work *crossed fingers*whereselizabeth wrote:Whew, glad to know others are in the same position, thanks y'all! UR 10/27 and radio silence since then....
LSAT @ 75th and GPA between 50th-75th
It's making me anxious af. But what would giving up even mean at this point? Committing to another school under the assumption that you won't get NYU? That wouldn't be a good idea. But if giving up just means leving the status checker alone then go for it - you'll get an email/phone call about your decision anyway.

Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
Does anyone know anything about how NYU is able to place into DC biglaw? Just curious, I tried doing a forum search and found nothing. I'm an admitted student that is really unclear as to NYU's placement power into DC. I know that DC is a tougher market to crack than NYC, but does the advantage that NYU have over the lower half of the T14 greatly diminish if one is targeting DC market. For instance, for DC biglaw would UVA and Duke be on more of an even playing field with NYU? How would Georgetown fit into the DC biglaw mix?

Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
Here are NYU's employment statistics: http://www.law.nyu.edu/careerservices/e ... statistics
About halfway down are the "most popular employment destinations." DC makes the list, but the percentage of grads there is only in the single digits. For context, the same is true for Columbia (http://web.law.columbia.edu/careers/emp ... statistics), showing how dominant NYC jobs are for graduates of the schools there.
In contrast, UVA has a very strong DC connection: http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/career/stats.htm. DC is the top single destination for its graduates, although CA and NY aren't far behind. It looks like Duke runs roughly similar: https://law.duke.edu/career/employmentdata/
DC is obviously the top destination for Georgetown grads, with almost half the members of the 2012 class that found jobs getting them there: http://www.law.georgetown.edu/careers/o ... istics.pdf
This info is all on schools' websites, either within Career Services or Admissions. Obviously I'm not separating out biglaw versus other jobs, but considering the percentages of grads going into biglaw versus anything else at these schools, I think the proportions probably hold pretty well.
For further questions, you should probably start a thread in Choosing a Law School or Legal Employment.

Hi, thanks for compiling the links in a single place, it helps illustrate my question. I've created a thread in the Choosing a Law School section, if anyone would like to provide input to my question there: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=241427. Sorry for placing this question here, was just not sure where it was best to put it at the time.LetsGoMets wrote:Here are NYU's employment statistics: http://www.law.nyu.edu/careerservices/e ... statistics

Checking in. 3.8 at NYU undergrad and waiting for Dec LSAT. URM. LSAT didn't go too great for me… hoping to break 160. Hail Mary for me.

Seems to me like a new 500 word essay is a very small price to pay for a (possibly quite generous) scholarship......Skool wrote:My understanding is that in principle, it's possible for any nyu admissions or scholarship person to see any and all of your app materials. It's not clear how often any given person bothers considering the full package, although he person I spoke to said that she personally does. So redundancy is possible, but even then, who knows if anyone will care.alloverthat wrote:Wait so they don't look at your PS as well as your scholarship essay? That's the opposite of what I had heardtal18 wrote:Re: scholarship essays - the admissions office told me you can submit essentially the same essay for both PS and Furman since the readers for either are separate. They won't find it redundant because the readers for either probably won't look at the other.
I just cut my PS down to 500 words and submitted it for that. For the other public interest scholarships you can just submit a copy of your PS as the instructions suggest.
If it came down to two equally compelling candidates, and one had bothered to write some more about their interests and the other didn't, the former would more likely than not get the award.

I was wondering if any international acceptances have gotten their acceptance letter yet. I got in 12/1, but have yet to get anything in the mail, despite actually receiving a different correspondence from NYU sent on 12/4.

Never got mine neither. From my undergrad application experience, it might take up to two months for an admission package to arrive in Asia.jawsjawsjaws wrote:I never got the mail that they said they sent... Mails from other schools generally take two weeks to arrive. Wondering why this letter is taking so long...

I'm in Canada, so really no reason why it would not have gotten to me yet. Almost wondering if they just don't send anything to internationals until the pizza box.ywli wrote:Me neither! Also in Asia. Was mentioned earlier in the thread, small letter theoretically comes right after accepted, and then in early January you get a package (shaped like a pizza box apparently) that has much more information etc.jawsjawsjaws wrote:What's the pizza box?Auxilio wrote:

Any chance of scholarship info in the pizza box?

Not that this is relevant to me - but I thought Vanderbilts (edited to add clarity: the full-tuition scholarship NYU offers is called the Vanderbilt - NYU's equivalent to the Hamilton/Rubenstein) came to some people before needaccess last year?james.bungles wrote:Nope u have to do need accesstrynalaw123 wrote:Any chance of scholarship info in the pizza box?
edited: Sorry, totally forgot that the Vandy scholarship might be mistaken for the law school of the same name.

Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
Yes, if you're getting a Vanderbilt, it comes regardless of need access. Would be a separate letter from the pizza box though. Usually late January / early February.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
